LearnUSING TUNED MASS DAMPERS TO MITIGATE
FLOOR VIBRATIONS {VIDEO}

The effects of vibration in a floor system, while typically not dangerous from a life safety perspective, can present a serviceability issue. To reduce the effects of vibration, engineers may consider increasing the mass of the structure or otherwise stiffening the floor.

When increasing the mass or stiffness is not feasible, there are other options that can help solve the problem of floor vibrations. One such option is using Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs), which are tuned to the dominant ...read more, and view a video clip from the August 2014 SE University session

CongratsSE UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES SE CURRICULUM TRACKS
{SEU RESOURCE CENTER}

SE University is excited to continue its development of the SEU Resource Center™. As part of the SEU Innovation Hub™, there is a new section called SE Curriculum Tracks, which aggregates different sessions on similar topics.

The first three tracks have been added:

Steel Connection Design (5 sessions)

Cold-Formed Steel Design (4 sessions)

Wood (3 sessions)

We will be developing additional tracks soon along with adding supplemental content to existing tracks. If there are sessions or topics you would like to see included as part of a curriculum track, please email Lisa Willard or Brian Quinn.

NextSessCOMING NEXT MONTH TO SE UNIVERSITY - DESIGNING FOR
ASCE 7 WIND LOADS - MAIN WIND FORCE RESISTING SYSTEM

On September 10th, we will be welcoming Don Scott, PE, SE, from PCS Structural Solutions, for an SE University session on Designing for ASCE 7 Wind Loads - Main Wind Force Resisting System.

This SE University session will include a review of the various methods allowed in the ASCE 7-10 standard for the determination of the Main Wind Force Resisting System design wind pressures. The presentation will discuss the change of the wind provisions to "ultimate" loads and the advantages and disadvantages associated with each of the various methods for determining the design wind pressures allowed in the standard.

Handouts and registration emails for this session will be sent to SE University companies on Friday, September 5th.

To learn more about subscribing to SE University, please contact either Lisa Willard at (805) 482-8436 ([email protected]) or Brian Quinn at (616) 546-9420 ([email protected]).
