LearnCRANE LOADS AND LOAD COMBINATIONS

When designing an industrial building with cranes, many engineers have questions about how to calculate and apply the crane loading on the structure as well as what load combinations are appropriate to use.

At the 2011 North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC) in Pittsburgh, PA, John Rolfes from Computerized Structural Design and Robert MacCrimmon from Hatch gave a presentation on crane loads in industrial buildings, and how typical building codes such as IBC and ASCE 7 handle (or don't handle) combining these loads with dead and live loads...read more

InnovateLESSONS LEARNED IN DESIGNING BRIDGE CRANES {VIDEO}

During the May 2014 SE University session Rules of Thumb for Industrial Building Design, Bill Kussro from IBI Group presented a list of Lessons Learned in Designing Bridge Cranes. In this 3:46 clip from the SE University session, Bill reviews items including supporting joist deflection limits for under-running cranes, locating crane runways symmetrical to supporting joists...read more

CongratsSEU BIM FORUM TIP - MODIFYING GRAPHICAL COLUMN SCHEDULES {SEU RESOURCE CENTER}

During the January 2014 SEU BIM Forum session Working With Schedules in Revit Structure 2014, Betsy Werra discussed changes that could be made to Graphical Column Schedules within Revit Structure.

Included in this discussion were how to add and remove levels from the schedule, and how to set a range for the levels that should be displayed on the schedule. Betsy also reviewed the procedure for hiding columns individually, and hiding all off-grid columns...read more
