CREATING PROCESSES & PROCEDURES TO REDUCE ERRORS WHILE USING STRUCTURAL SOFTWARE

For the 2014 Structures Congress, Brian Quinn and Lisa Willard contributed to a paper along with Ryan Solnosky, a Research Associate in the Department of Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, titled Reducing Errors when using Structural Software.
As part of the paper, the Software Error Reduction Plan (SERP) that was the basis for the inaugural SE University Session was presented, including Step 3 - Research and Create Processes and Procedures. In creating processes and procedures, an important consideration is to identify those items that should be reviewed in a software model, particularly at certain steps in the modeling and analysis/design process.
We presented a Template to identify items to review, based on previous experience with the RAM Structural System. If you would find this template file helpful ...read more

SE SOLUTIONS PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO CAL POLY, SLO STUDENTS FOR STRUCTURAL FORUM EVENT
SE Solutions was pleased to work recently with the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo SEAOC Group as they hosted their annual "Structural Forum" program, in which students had the opportunity to hear from key structural engineering leaders in a morning session, and attend a dinner and job fair in the evening.
SE Solutions provided scholarships to eight ARCE Students, allowing them to attend the evening program free of charge. Students submitted 150 word statements on "What are the 3 adjectives/phrases that best describe you and why?"
Information about the Structural Forum can be found on the CPSEAOC Events Page.

COMING NEXT MONTH TO SE UNIVERSITY - RULES OF THUMB FOR INDUSTRIAL BUILDING DESIGN
On May 14th, we will be welcoming Bill Kussro, PE, SE, from Giffels, LLC/IBI Group, for an SE University session on Rules of Thumb for Industrial Building Design.
The design of Industrial Buildings is often assumed to be straightforward and relatively simple when compared to other building types. However, engineers regularly involved in the design of such buildings may disagree. Specific topics to be discussed during this session include structural design criteria, typical framing & foundation systems, bridge crane & monorail supports, equipment supports, structural joints, process equipment foundations & pits, slabs-on-ground, as well as other engineering-related issues.
Handouts and registration emails for this session will be sent to SE University companies on Friday, May 9th.
