March 2016   Welcome Spring!

Botanica: a gardener's luncheon

Friday, April 8, 2016
Gallery Room at Klehm

Help us welcome spring at Botanica 2016!

We are delighted to have Leslie Goddard, historian and actress, as our featured presentation. Leslie will bring to life the story of noted author and environmentalist Rachel Carson, who warned the world of the potentially dire environmental impact of chemical pesticides in her best-selling 1962 book 'Silent Spring'.

In this living history program set in 1963, Leslie Goddard portrays Carson as she discusses her childhood love for the living world, her passion for writing, and her work to awaken the world to the beauty and fragility of nature.

Oak Woodland Restoration Begins

Work has begun to restore 15 acres of native oak woodland at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden. This project, funded by a grant from the
Dr. Courtney J. & Margaret Hutchins Hamlin Family Fund of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, allows Klehm to begin the first step of the process, which is removing invasive woody species like honeysuckle and buckthorn from the understory.
