Rockford, IL - University of Illinois Extension, in partnership with Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, is offering a series of summer programs for area youth.
Young Explorers will investigate a variety of environmental science topics weekly including botany, soils, wildlife, insects, and pollution. Classes are scheduled on Tuesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. beginning the week of June 10 and running through July 22. U of I Extension staff along with volunteers from the master gardener and master naturalist programs, as well as Klehm Arboretum staff and volunteers, will assist in providing engaging, hands-on exploration activities.
Families may register for individual classes at $5 per child or register for the entire series (6 classes) at a reduced rate of $25 per child. The Young Explorers program is appropriate for children ages 6 to 12 years.
Registration is required as space is limited. Parents or caregivers are encouraged to stay and participate. Program materials, a snack and juice, and entrance into Klehm Arboretum is included in the class fee. Financial assistance may be available.
