Mike Brown grew up in West Texas also, not far from where I grew up. Though we didn't know each other during that time of our lives, we quickly became good friends when we did meet in 1978 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austin Texas. Mike was teaching a Youth Class there, with permission from the Sr. Pastor at Hillcrest Baptist Church, pastor Kenneth Moore. Mike was teaching "Bible faith" ... Mark 11:23 stuff ... right out of Kenneth Copeland's King James version Bible! These classes were awesome, and the kids were "hungry" for GOD!!!
Over the years, Mike became a pastor and went into full-time ministry. We lost touch for a while, but reconnected years later, and eventually my wife and I moved to attend the church where he pastored, just North of Georgetown Texas, in a beautiful little church building, entitled Windy Hill Christian Center. While there, my wife and I would earn our Bachelor's Degrees in Biblical & Theological Studies, and would receive training and experience that very few receive, before entering into ministry! Now licensed and ordained, the teachings and instruction of pastor Mike Brown continue in our hearts, as they continue to speak the life-giving Word of the Living GOD that he so faithfully and earnestly believed in! His passion for serving GOD, and his ability to spread out and explain the Word in his teachings, will always remain a vital part of my heart and my faith.
Mike Brown, together with his wife Janie Brown, were a pivotal point in my life and in my ministry. Mike was not big on media, on social networking, or business cards and such. He just spent the major part of his life just continuing in the Word of GOD, preaching and teaching. Unlike other preachers like T. D. Jakes, or R. W. Shambach, which was one of Mike's favorites, Mike never hit the limelight. The camera's never caught him long enough to get his preaching and his teaching message out there, where he would be well-known or popular amongst large crowds. But Mike didn't care. He served GOD, and if it meant that he did that before a crowd of 20, 200 or 200,000 people, he would still preach the Word! He wasn't big on advertising or putting his name out there. He expected GOD to do that, and he just kept on teaching and preaching.
I often wonder what it would have been like to minister with Mike, in a convention, together. Mike's prophetic gift was "dead-on" when it came to seeing into things that only Holy Spirit could reveal. I often find myself wanting in that regard, to the excellence he walked in, as a prophet of GOD. Frequent were the times that Mike would be awakened by dreams, or when GOD would speak to him, in his home. He thought nothing of getting up, whatever the time of day or night, and spending the time needed to find out what it was that GOD wanted of His servant.
I know today where Mike is! He's telling Daisy, the late wife of T. L. Osborne, just what an influence they both were in his life! Or maybe he's swapping stories with King David, like you often see two great hunters or fisherman do, when they get together! He may even be sharing his prophetic encounters with the prophet Elijah, or with Samuel. One thing's for sure though, Mike Brown is having the time of his life! For he is now deep in "his element"! He is deep into the things of GOD, which was his deepest passion and his deepest desire! He wanted to teach and to raise up, and to be a "father" to young men and women of faith! And at least in my life, he was!
I will miss him. I do miss him, even now. And though I am deeply saddened at his passing, I know that as time passes, my hurting will heal. I will rejoice as I take the things that Dr. Mike Brown, my close friend and pastor, spoke into my life. And I will "stir up" the things that GOD has placed into my heart, as Mike would put it, to see that my calling is fulfilled ... in "this life".
So long Mike, and thank you for "THE Life" (as he would preach it) that you sowed into my heart, of the Word of GOD. Because of you, Mike, it lives now, more than ever before, and it continues to change my heart and my life. This is one prophet that is going to miss you deeply ...
I will do my best to make you proud!
