CampfireTALKDecember 2012  -  Week 1

Greetings!

As the weather continues to be just absolutely "fantastic" here in the Austin area, this ole "camper" just cannot resist camping, and wanting to be in the great "outdoors" this season!  Enjoy these times!  Take time to be "thankful" to GOD for all that HE has blessed you with ... I know I am!

Make me proud!

P. S.  This Christmas season keep your heart sensitive to those around you who have needs.  The Holy Spirit will help you with this, but it is important!  This is also the season that many people, while in the midst of all of the joy and blessed atmosphere all around them, are more keenly aware that they are in lack or hurting.  It is a time that if you're not living a "blessed" life, it becomes very obvious!  They need someone to show them GOD's love in giving!

Health Tips!
For months now I have been trying to watch what I eat, in an effort to lose the weight and the "tummy" that I need to lose, and do you know that is has NOT worked like I had hoped!

Eating a healthy diet, choosing good foods, and reducing your intake,  are all good ideas, but as you get older your metabolism slows down.  Your body does not need what it used to in order to function.  As a result, what you used to eat with no problem now becomes a large decoration around the middle, or in your thighs, or wherever you are prone to store the extra fat!

There is no replacement for exercise!  Let me say that again ...
"THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR EXERCISE"!  You have to work out your body.  Yes, you have to "sweat" if you want that thing to change it's metabolism.  But, as you do, you will at first see a weight gain ... as the muscle mass builds as a result of your exercise.  Then, the "needs" of that muscle mass will increase the needs of your body to maintain, and if you don't overeat, the fat will begin to melt away.  The more you work out, the greater the weight loss.

Here's a hint that I've learned the hard way:

You guys - trying to lose the big stomach?  It will only go away with direct effort!  That means you are going to have to do sit-ups, crunches, 'n the stuff that you really don't want to do ... if you want that thing to go away!  AND YOU DO!  It's not healthy at all.

You women - the same goes for an area you are having problems with ... focus on that area ... stomach?  sit-ups, crunches ... etc.   you get the idea.

 A Word from pastor Rich

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?
Which do YOU think you should use when you greet others this season?

Risk offending someone and "bless" them with the greetings for the season ...
Merry Christmas!

Often we are concerned about offending someone with our faith.  Should we be?  After all, Who is your master?  Did you or did you not give your life to Jesus?  Is He now your Lord and Master?  If so, then you should follow His example, right?

I believe I remember reading where Jesus told us that He would be a "stumbling block" to some?  Was He concerned at all about offending the money changes and peddlers who were selling in the temple?  Seem like I remember Him using a "whip" to drive them out!

So, am I saying that you need to be offensive?  No, but you need to be "solid" in your faith ... with firm resolve and conviction.  Take a stance.  Be someone that others look up to because of what you believe!

I am sure Jesus offended a great deal of folks when He reached out to the hooker the religious leaders threw at him to judge!  He spoke knelt down and spoke with her, and even forgave her!  I'm sure the religious leaders were offended when Jesus deemed them a "brood of vipers"!

Jesus told us to "be hot or be cold, but not lukewarm for as with lukewarm water He would spew them from His mouth!  In other words, if you are going to be neutral, or "user-friendly", and not take a stand for your faith and for your beliefs, then be prepared to hear, "Depart from me, you who practice iniquity, for I never knew you!" when you reach the judgement day.

So, what impresses Jesus?  For one, the Samaritan woman who's daughter needed healing ... He called her a "dog", and yet she (in faith and boldness, and in determination) responded to him, "Well even the dogs get the crumbs that fall from the Master's table!"  That impressed Him!  Why?  Because she wasn't religious ... because she wasn't artificial, or user-friendly ... because she was "salt"!  She had character, flavor ... "guts" as we call it in West Texas!  She "stood her ground", and He said ... "for that woman, your daughter is made whole."

So make a decision this Christmas Season ...
Decide whether you are going to be a Christian or not.  For if you are going to be a Christian*, then "be" one.

Make me proud!

*NOTE:  The church of Antioch first started calling the disciples of Jesus "Christians" because they were all acting like "the Christ"!  They were acting like Jesus!  Learn from this.
