HELLO FROM PRINCIPAL LOWE
|

Hi Parents,
Next week, May 9-13, is Volunteer Appreciation Week for our school. This is a wonderful time of year for us because it is a time when we get to say a special thank you to our volunteers. You know, we absolutely could not do this job without each and every one of you! The hours you spend helping with small groups, laminating, cutting out things for bulletin boards, taking things home to work on them, chaperoning trips, working in the front office...the list just goes on and on. This year alone our amazing volunteers gave more than TEN THOUSAND hours of their time to benefit our school.
We'll be recognizing and thanking our volunteers all week long, including a daily gift card drawing, and a Volunteer Appreciation Coffee with Funky Brewster on Thursday, May 13 between 8-10:30 AM. Please stop by and let us say thank you! You know the old African proverb, "It takes a village to raise a child"? Well, here at Flagstaff, our parents and staff are truly a village raising our children together. We are so grateful for your continued support and honored that you take time from your schedules to help make Flagstaff the amazing, supportive environment it is!
Thank you!!
Robin Lowe Executive Principal, Flagstaff Academy

DRAGON SUPPORT FOR THE MITCHEM FAMILY
|
Dear Flagstaff Dragons,
Legend has it that dragons are a very connected species. They are well-known to support each other through any challenge. When we talk about our "dragon family", it is this kind of spirit that we are acknowledging. Many of you may have heard that 4th grader, Odin Mitchem, has been very ill since Spring Break. He has been in the ICU at Children's Hospital as they help him battle viral pneumonia. The healing takes time, and is a slow process. The doctors have Odin in a medically-induced coma so his body can rest while healing. As you might imagine, this is a difficult time for the whole Mitchem family. His parents, Robert and Shannon are splitting their time with Odin and his 2nd grade sister, Leilani.
A friend of theirs has set up a GoFundMe page to help them tackle the growing medical bills, significant extra driving, missed work, eating out at the hospital, etc. We are sharing the link with you, our Flagstaff family, knowing that many of you may want to offer some support in the form of a donation to their fund. We also invite you to keep the Mitchem family in your thoughts, and send them some powerful dragon energy for Odin's recovery.
Thank you for you consideration!
Kevin Pugh,
Dean of School Culture
Flagstaff Academy

SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE SURVEY
|
This year, the School Accountability Committee (SAC) implemented a new parent survey with a third party administrator. Now that the survey period is completed, SAC would like to know how you felt about the survey.
Please know this survey is coming directly from SAC, not the third party. We will be discussing the results, along with the results of the parent survey, to try to improve our process for next year. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us feedback!

All meetings are open to the public.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTIONS - IT'S TIME TO VOTE!
|
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our Board of Directors elections have finally arrived! Look for your ballots in your child's Friday Folder for elementary school, and from your child's middle school homeroom teacher. They will also be available at the front desk, as well to download and print here, and from the Board of Directors Elections webpage.
We will be accepting completed ballots during afternoon Driveline from Monday, May 9 through Wednesday, May 11, as well as at the front desk. To ensure the best possible voting process, we appreciate your cooperation with the following election rules:
- We will be only accepting paper ballots. While the ballot will be available online, a physical copy must be turned in.
- Ballots will be collected ONLY at the front office and afternoon driveline.
- Ballots WILL NOT be accepted from students on behalf of parents.
- No more than TWO ballots per household.
- Three pieces of information will be requested at the time of collection - Driveline number (for parents), Teacher or Homeroom teacher last name, and number of ballots submitted.
- All ballots must be turned in by 5PM on Wednesday, May 11, with election results announced on Friday, May 13.
Serving on the Flagstaff Academy Board of Directors is a job of significant importance to the mission and vision of our school. I hope that each of you will take the time to become an informed voter this election and VOTE!
Serving our Dragons,
Debbie Nelson,
Vice President and Elections Chair
Flagstaff Academy Board of Directors

FINAL HARVEST DAY - VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
|
We are celebrating the final Harvest Day of the school year in a special way. Instead of serving students during lunch, we'll be sending bags of fresh produce home with students at the end of the day on Friday, May 20.
But we need your help to help make this happen! On Thursday 5/19 at 4:00 p.m., we need 8-10 volunteers to meet up at Ollin Farms to help fill bags. These bags will contain spinach, radishes and Egyptian walking onions. We will be tying the bags with a recipe card and Boulder County Farmers Market information. On Friday 5/20 at 3:00 p.m., we need 8-10 volunteers to hand out bags of produce to children (one bag per family) during driveline. If you have any challenges with updating the Google sheet, send Jodie Popma a note at a note. Thank you for supporting Harvest Days and Project Produce this year!
