Hi Parents,
This week we received notification from the St. Vrain school district that SIX of our teachers have been named finalists for the district Encore Awards and will be honored at the Ninth Annual "Tribute to Teachers" on May 6, 2016.

Flagstaff is such an excellent school with an outstanding staff, but it is so heartwarming to see our teachers recognized at the district level!  Please join me in congratulating these teachers:
      • Tracy Applehans - Kindergarten
      • Erin Cynkar - 5th grade
      • Katie Jamieson - 3rd grade
      • Jennifer Lockwood - 2nd grade
      • Kate Salgado - Middle School PE and Athletic Coordinator
      • Jay Willis - 7th and 8th grade Science

DRAGON SUPPORT FOR THE MITCHEM FAMILY

Dear Flagstaff Dragons,

Legend has it that dragons are a very connected species. They are well-known to support each other through any challenge. When we talk about our "dragon family", it is this kind of spirit that we are acknowledging. Many of you may have heard that 4th grader, Odin Mitchem, has been very ill since Spring Break. He has been in the ICU at Children's Hospital as they help him battle viral pneumonia. The healing takes time, and is a slow process. The doctors have Odin in a medically-induced coma so his body can rest while healing. As you might imagine, this is a difficult time for the whole Mitchem family. His parents, Robert and Shannon are splitting their time with Odin and his 2nd grade sister, Leilani.

A friend of theirs has set up a GoFundMe page to help them tackle the growing medical bills, significant extra driving, missed work, eating out at the hospital, etc. We are sharing the link with you, our Flagstaff family, knowing that many of you may want to offer some support in the form of a donation to their fund. We also invite you to keep the Mitchem family in your thoughts, and send them some powerful dragon energy for Odin's recovery.

Thank you for you consideration!

Kevin Pugh,
Dean of School Culture
Flagstaff Academy

SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEE SURVEY

This year, the School Accountability Committee (SAC) implemented a new parent survey with a third party administrator.  Now that the survey period is completed, SAC would like to know how you felt about the survey.

Please know this survey is coming directly from SAC, not the third party. We will be discussing the results, along with the results of the parent survey, to try to improve our process for next year. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us feedback!
