A NOTE FROM EXECUTIVE PRINCIPAL LOWE
|
To All First - Fourth Grade Parents:
Since the start of school, our teachers have been working with their students to assess current levels of performance in math and reading. In collaboration with our administrative team, our assessment coordinator and our interventionists, teachers are establishing reading and math groups. At the Parent Conferences days next week, your child's math and/or reading groups will be discussed, along with establishing specific annual learning goals for your child.
If you are interested in knowing more about what your child is learning this year and ways you can extend that learning at home, I encourage you to access the Core Knowledge website, for the "What Your _____ Grader Needs to Know" series.
You will find a complete explanation of the Core Knowledge sequence, as well as suggestions on books to read to your child and activities you can do at home for all core areas.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher, Ms. Long, or myself should you have any questions.
Warmly,
Robin Lowe
Executive Principal |
GIFTED AND TALENTED PARENT NOMINATION PROCESS
|
Flagstaff will be conducting Gifted and Talented screenings for all 4th grade students in October. At this time, parents of students in grades K-8, who wish to nominate their student for GT testing may do so.
To nominate your student, please visit the Front Office and pick up a District nomination form as well as a parent input form. All forms must be returned to the Front Office by Wednesday, September 23.
Incomplete nomination forms will not be accepted. Student records will then be evaluated, and testing needs determined.

Music Program and MS Choir Accompanist Volunteers Sought!
We are still seeking enthusiastic volunteer accompanists. The accompanist role can be filled by more than one person, which would bring more parent involvement in the music program. What's needed:
- Daily accompanist for the Middle School Choir:
- Choir meets Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. - Noon.
- The commitment would be for two days a week, and one more day for concerts. If you'd like to do more, that is also welcome!
- Elementary Music Program:
- Accompanists for each grade level who could come as often as you'd like, as well as to be on call for rehearsals.
You don't need to be a virtuoso! Needed skills? Basic music reading skills and ability to cover the material. The atmosphere is easy going!
