Hi Everyone,

Bob Wooley, the sponsoring Representative of Bill HB 594, has indicated he is amending the bill.

Everyone did a great job making their voices heard - Thank you!  For now, let's hold off contacting him until the amendments are out and we know what the changes are.  We will keep you posted.

Bob Wooley's comment is that he is looking for ways to keep Marijuana out of the hands of children.  This statement is easy to support, I personally support keeping all medication out of the hands of anyone other than the individual for whom it was prescribed and most especially children.  I also support keeping toxins and refined sugars out of the hands of kids, but that's a larger discussion about our food source and for another day.

This is an issue of propriety.  Drawing the comparison of Cannabis patient to criminals is a prime example of misplaced conformity to what is socially acceptable in conduct or speech.  In other words, demonizing "pot" is an easy political move and Bob Wooley though he would get easy support.  What he did not consider is that far too often people are forced to try to figure out how to maintain their dignity, and decency-often in some very unsettling situations.  People with illness that may be helped by Cannabis deserve the dignity of safe medicine and safe access if they so choose.  I believe the majority of American citizens are rational, reasonable, intelligent, compassionate human beings who understand that the good in humanity does not come from an unbending ideology taken from a time long gone.   The good in humanity comes from loving and caring for one another, respecting the earth, and all the lives that share and inhabit her.  We ask our representatives to defend us and our values; after all we gave them the power they presently hold. We need to move forward, never back.

MARIJUANA IS MEDICINE:

How sick do you have to be
to find compassion in society?
Marijuana is medicine
for anorexics getting way too thin.
If I have asthma, must I choke
while you forbid my therapeutic toke?
Glaucoma can make you blind
while drug-war hypocrites suppress the Kind.

How sick do you have to be
to get compassion from society?
Cancer patients' chronic pain
can be dissociated in the brain;
They can keep medications down
if they can smoke the safest drug around
And even tolerate radiation
with a little tolerance from this great nation.

(insert political figure)...., with your veto pen,
you know where to stick it and we'll tell you when.
If sending messages is your concern,
here's one that you've been much too slow to learn:
Marijuana is medicine,
the jails are fat and the schools are thin.
Forcing patients to break your laws
serves no political or moral cause.

Marijuana's Medicine!
