***ACTION NEEDED***
Senator Pat Pettey (D) and Representative Nancy Lusk (D) have introduced identical bills in both chambers of the KS legislature. SB115 and HB2190 which they are calling the "Saving Communities Amendment" ask the legislature to extend the public building exemptions beyond the original four years mandated by the legislature passed in 2013. They want to add an additional four years to the allowed exemption for allowing concealed carry in public buildings. Public buildings are city, county, state buildings owned by tax payers. This does not affect private buildings which are owned by private businesses.
The KSRA strongly objects to changing the rules passed in 2013 which are codified in K.S.A. 75-7c20 of the Personal and Family Protection Act. This bill attempts to circumvent the preemption on local control and an agreement that already exists to allow concealed carry in public buildings that do not provide adequate security by the end of the original four year exemption.
Please call and email Senator Pettey and Representative Lusk and express your objection to these bills. Let them know that Kansans are not interested in any further gun control or any measure that restricts their rights. Let them know that you are a taxpayer and have a right to enter those buildings you have paid for while exercising your natural right to carry a firearm for self-protection.

No hearings have been scheduled on these bills. We will update you if that changes so you can call the appropriate committee members but that is not necessary at this time.
