Lenten Worship at Broadway
Wednesday Evening Vespers
Each Wednesday evening during Lent,  join us for Vespers service in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m.  Worship will include a brief meditation, music and communion.  Following the service, all are invited to  partake in a communal meal, served by Broadway's Service/Mission and Outreach Ministry cooks.

Meditative Prayer and Taize Worship
Also on Wednesday evenings during Lent, our Sanctuary will be open at 6:30 p.m. for thirty minutes of silent, meditative prayer.  At 7:00 p.m., Lynelle Phillips and Ed Varnum will lead us in a Taize-style worship service.  If you have not experienced this worship style, it includes periods of silent prayer, interspersed with scripture and music.
To allow Broadway's youth time to prepare for Youth Sunday in the Sanctuary, there will be no service on March 9.

February Is Retreat Month at Broadway
God Is Shining Through It All, a central idea from the writings of Thomas Merton, will be the theme shared by all Broadway retreats in 2016. ' There are retreat opportunities available for the whole family at Broadway!   From youth in grades 6-12, to men, and to the mother of all Broadway retreats - women - see below for details and registration information!

Men's Retreat
February 19-20
The men of Broadway will retreat to Cedar Creek for their overnight retreat.  Cedar Creek's facilities include cabins and lodge space, all with furnished sleeping quarters, kitchens and baths.  The guest presenter will be Rev. Beau Underwood, Senior Minister of First Christian Church in Jefferson City.   The cost of the retreat is $80, with scholarship assistance available for Broadway members.  Registrationsare due by February 14.

Women's Retreat
February 26-28
As Dorothy said, "There's no place like home." The 16th annual Women's Retreat is coming home - to Broadway.  This shift opens a new chapter in the evolution of the Women's Retreat, and allows some who may not have participated in an off-site retreat a chance to be a part of this special fellowship for women!  There are four options available to all participants,, ranging in cost from $12 to $45. Complete registration information is available here.  Registrations are due by next Tuesday, February 16.
Can We Talk...
Disciples 101 and Broadway 201 Classes
Coming in February
Have you ever wondered why Disciples churches have communion every Sunday?  Or why everyone is welcome at the Lord's Table here?  How did Broadway come to be a church almost 60 years ago and why?
These questions and many others are answered in our Disciples 101 and Broadway 201 Sunday morning classes.  The classes are designed for visitors, new members or anyone who wants to increase their Broadway knowledge!
The next classes are:
February 21 - Disciples 101 (history and traditions of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and:
February 28 - Broadway 201 (Broadway's history and culture).
Both classes will be held at 10:10 a.m. in the lower level Resource Room (Office Wing).

Do You Love Weddings?
Be A Broadway Wedding Coordinator!
Our beautiful Sanctuary is a very popular location for weddings, both for Broadway members and those in the Columbia community. Broadway's wedding coordinators are volunteers who serve as our hosts for weddings and rehearsals, and also are there to ensure that our facilities are used in a manner consistent with our building policies.
Join Renee Terrell and other Broadway wedding coordinators for a meeting on Saturday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  Renee will have more information on how you can volunteer as a coordinator!

Carrie Newcomer in Concert
Saturday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m.
Singer-Songwriter Carrie Newcomer will share her musical and spiritual gifts live in the Broadway Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5. The ticket price is $12.00 and you may purchase your tickets in the church office Monday-Thursday or in the Fellowship Hall on Sunday morning.  Tickets may be purchased online here.
Called a "prairie mystic" by the Boston Globe, Carrie has traveled around the world sharing her music.  She has released 14 albums and numerous videos.  Her music often incorporates themes of social justice, including issues of global hunger, the education of young women in developing countries, and veterans' issues.
Carrie will be in Columbia as part of a veterans' retreat and is graciously extending her stay for the concert. Plan now to attend and bring friends!
