Which of these are you least likely to witness on a sultry Missouri summer evening:

  • Playing the spoons for pre-dinner entertainment
  • Singing Silent Night in August
  • Hearing a story about a father who for the past thirty years has pushed his disabled son through marathon after marathon
  • Sharing the news that the Woodhaven capital campaign is already more than halfway toward its $1.9 million goal

However unlikely any of these might have been, they all occurred at the 50th anniversary celebration of Woodhaven Learning Center on Friday, August 23, 2014. I know because I have the complimentary hand-crafted greeting cards created by the Woodhaven residents to prove it!

The Woodhaven residents shared music with handbells and spoons, the phenomenal Dick Hoyt shared the inspirational story of sharing hundreds of marathons and triathlons with his son, Rick, and executive director Mark Palmer shared the joyful news of moving towards Woodhaven's next ambitious goal for its future.

Really, you should try singing Silent Night in August. It works anytime. And Joseph, Mary and Jesus, I actually saw some of my flock singing a hymn other than during their annual appearance during December!
