HABITAT SALE!!!
APRIL 13!!

BCC frontThe last few weeks have been eventful for Broadway's Service Ministry.  We have touched many people - some in small little "God winks" that may not be noticed as such, and some in profound, "no way you can miss it"  ways.

I hope that you were able to be a part of one or more of these ministry efforts - whether you were with us onsite or in prayer.

Blessings,

Debby

Red Cross Shelter Volunteer Training March 16

Red Cross

Here are famous last words from last month's e-newsletter:

Hopefully, this is a training you'll never need to use.  But if Broadway is ever activated as a Red Cross Shelter,

During Columbia's last and (hopefully) final snowstorm of 2013, the "if" became a reality - Broadway was activated as a Red Cross Shelter by the Boone County Office of Emergency Management.  With very few trained volunteers in Boone County, the OEM and Red Cross pulled volunteers from Jefferson City and Mexico to staff the Broadway shelter.

Our goal is to have enough trained Broadway volunteers so that if (when) we are activated again, there will be Broadway members available to facilitate shelter set-up and operations.

March 16, Broadway will host a Red Cross Shelter volunteer training.  The training is from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., which includes both instruction and a mock Shelter activation and set-up.

You can register for the training by contacting Debby at dkgraham75@tranquility.net.  Lunch will be provided for the training.

Almost Here....
Habitat
25th Annual Habitat Sale
April 13
The planning has begun!

The official kick-off to 2013 Habitat Sale preparations will be the traditional
Sausage and Waffles dinner on March 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Broadway Fellowship Hall.  Bring a dish to compliment the sausage and waffles entree, and join this informal gathering to discuss plans for the Sale.  The filming for the 25th anniversary documentary will also begin on March 24, so make sure your socks match!
Community Garden Prepares for the Growing Season

GardenersBirds are chirping, the sun is shining longer ad stronger, and Property Ministry is getting ready to have a work day on March 16 - so it must be time to talk Community Garden!

Many of our returning gardeners have already contact Don regarding their plot assignments.  There are still plots available!  To reserve your garden space, contact Don at dday@centurytel.net.

El Salvador Mission Team Coming Together

El Salvador map  Our third mission trip to El Salvador is planned for August 10-17, and now is the time to make your plans to join the team!

Group size is limited, and several Broadway members have already committed to the trip.  If you are considering making the journey and would like more information, contact Nancy Miller at  roche2150@yahoo.com or Debby at dkgraham75@traquility.net.  The approximate cost of the trip will be between $1300-$1400 and scholarship assistance is available for first-time missioners.   .
Room at the Inn Comes to Broadway

Room at the InnColumbia's Room at the Inn winter shelter is now officially closed, but the closing came one week later than planned.  The weather forecast for the first week of March was snowy and cold.  Wilkes Boulevard had done more than their share of the heavy lifting for Room at the Inn, so an alternate site was needed - and in a hurry.

Calls began late Thursday afternoon and by noon on Friday, March 1, the word came down that Broadway would host an additional week of Room at the Inn.   Our CLC was equipped with cots from the City of Columbia Human Services Department, Marilyn began lining up volunteers and folks arrived at 7 pm that night.  For the next week, they slept in a warm, safe place with lots of time to talk, rest and play some serious shuffleboard (thank you, Jack Miles!).

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, brought food and/or helped us clean up on Friday morning.  We shared the Broadway Spirit in abundance!
