TCACID receives $1.2 million grant for South Barrett Reliever

in this letter.

The grant was approved at the State Road and Tollway Authority's May 28th board meeting and announced by Governor Nathan Deal at a press conference immediately following the meeting. This grant allows Phase 2 of the multi-phased South Barrett Reliever to move from planning to execution.

Phase 1, completed for just under $6 million from the TCACID and Cobb County SPLOST, is open for traffic. It realigned Barrett Lakes Boulevard with Greers Chapel Road, which was also widened.

Phase 2 will provide realignment of Barrett Lakes Boulevard at Shiloh Valley Drive with a roundabout design and improved approaches. See the 2 minute WSBTV video.

The South Barrett Reliever (more detail) has been designed to relieve traffic on Barrett Parkway, currently carrying 61,000 vehicles a day.

As we celebrate this important grant, we are also looking forward to:

The last phase of our Noonday Creek Trail is due to open in late August, ready for fall activities on this seven-mile trail connecting Bells Ferry Road through the area to the Kennesaw National Park Trail.
Construction of the new Airport Tower is expected to begin in late June and take approximately nine months to complete.
The goal for the McCollum General Aviation Customs Facility is to begin welcoming international arrivals this winter.
