Greetings!,

Cosmos
Happy New Year, everyone!

I have much to look forward to in the coming weeks. Most importantly I am excited to introduce you to my 2016 Block of the Month, Cosmos.  This is a free program available only to our newsletter subscribers. Each newsletter will have a link to the FREE pattern download for that month's block.  January actually has two months. Download the patterns today! See below for details of this great new program.

The next few weeks will be busy for me. I will be teaching here in the Studio, welcoming students from not just across the country but even from Australia! Early next month, I will be traveling to Costa Rica for a trip with Sew Many Places, teaching with a group of wonderful instructors and seeing the amazing architecture, crafts and scenery the country offers.  There are still a few spots available.

January is a month of resolutions and new beginnings and here at the Studio we have so many things to tell you about. In just a couple of weeks, my fabric line, Safari, will be arriving and with it a quilt, Safari Star, designed just for the collection.

New fabric, quilts, tips and more can be found in this month's newsletter. This is just the start of what we hope will be a great year.

My Latest Collection - Safari

Africa is home to some of the world's most endangered animals. It is these animals along with the magnificent hues of the Serengeti skies and the brightly colored garments of the African Maasai which inspired my new collection, Safari.

This 35 fabric collection blends vibrant colors and soft neutrals with subtle prints of the region's animals and landscape. If you look closely, you will even see the legs of a giraffe in the border print.

Introducing Safari Star

I've designed Safari Star with a center of fussy-cut border print surrounded by foundation-pieced triangles to create a sense of drama reflective of this exotic region.

Safari Star comes in two colorways, orange and teal. You can find complete details of the Safari Star quilt on our website.

Small Business Spotlight - Heather Spence Designs
I had the opportunity to meet Heather Spence at the Fall Quilt Market in Houston when I noticed some very familiar fabric used in a quilt hanging in her booth.

A stay at home mom, Heather began quilting in 2005. As her children grew, she began working part time in a local quilt shop and eventually started a long arm business.

In 2011 Heather's mom was diagnosed with cancer and needed a stem cell transplant. Heather raised money for the procedure by designing a mystery quilt.  Dan's Climb is named after a family friend who participated for many years in the Scott Firefighter Stairclimb, a fundraiser for the Lymphoma Leukemia Society.  That year he climbed in honor of Heather's mom and wore her picture in his helmet.

When Heather revamped Dan's Climb in 2015, she used my Malam batiks.  Heather writes: "I knew that the beautiful batik fat quarter bundle would be perfect for this pattern.

A sneak peek at Dan's Climb
Heather established Mystery Quilt for a Cause, which has turned into a fundraiser that she runs three times a year for organizations that help people meet practical needs. Visit Heather's website for more information.

Heather's Dan's Climb quilt will be featured as an upcoming Weekly Web Special this month. You can sign up to receive email notifications of our Weekly Web Specials on our homepage under "Newsletter Sign Ups."

Tip - Printing Templates
Many patterns include instructions for making templates to create blocks. In my new Block of the Month, Cosmos, templates are required for all pieced blocks.  Tracing each of these can be time-consuming so we have come up with a faster method. Visit our Tips and Lessons page for instructions on "Printing Templates on Your Home Computer" for the step-by-step process of printing these at home.

If you are just starting Cosmos, our new BOM, we have an even faster way to make the templates. You can simply order them as we have done the printing for you! Templates are available under kit options for Cosmos. Learn about the Cosmos Templates here.

Jinny Beyer Studio 2016 Block of the Month - Cosmos

I am very excited to introduce you to the JINNY BEYER STUDIO 2016 Block of the Month, Cosmos. This is a free program available just to our newsletter subscribers. Each newsletter will have a link to the FREE pattern download for that month's block.

The pattern has you making the easier blocks first and the more difficult ones coming later in the year. Each month, we will refer to videos or quilt tips on our web site that will help you with the techniques in that month's lesson.

[Download link available in subscriber email only]

Cosmos has two main color schemes: blue/teal or red/gold. Each of those is available with a light or a dark background for a total combination of four quilts from which to choose. Click here for more information on Cosmos kits.

We've also created beautiful fat quarter bundles of the fabrics used in the two Cosmos colorways. If you love the colors in the quilt and would like to use them in a different project, this is the choice for you.

Happy Quilting!
