Greetings!,

I just returned from my annual trip to Australia. I spent a week in Melbourne with my friend and shop owner Sue Bennett, teaching workshops and enjoying the Australasian Quilt Convention. It was a wonderful show with fabulous quilts. And I was delighted that so many of you stopped by to say hello!  I was able to see many old friends, eat delicious food and I actually got to sew! Stay tuned for new projects inspired by this trip.
This month we have some wonderful new products to show you, news and information. The busy travel season is starting up so we hope when you are passing through the Washington, D.C. area, you'll stop in and visit us at the shop.

New Fabric - Cherry Blossom Batik
Our nation's capital is known for its spectacular cherry blossoms and, yes, they truly were breathtaking again this year. The blossoms are only with us for a short time but our new Cherry Blossom Batik
fabric can stay with you all year. Featuring designs and motifs which are special to our region, this new fabric is a great reminder of springtime here in Washington.

Our Beaded Batik Scarves were so popular with our earlier Quilters' Quest Batiks that we know you'll want one in our new Cherry Blossom Batik too!

Join Me on an Amazing Trip to Bali!

Almost two years ago I had an incredible trip to  Bali and would love to have you with me when I return this fall with Sew Many Places. Besides visiting the Royal Palace, a monkey sanctuary and a bird park, you will have the opportunity to meet gifted artists in their small villages, wiggle your toes in the Indian Ocean, ride an elephant, shop for batiks at unbelievably low prices, and create your own unique batiks! You'll find more information about my Bali trip here.

Night and Day Returns with Beautiful New Fabrics

Night and Day incorporates my love of color shading with simple strip piecing techniques producing not one but two quilts. I've updated these popular quilts with my vibrant new Carnival fabrics. I've also added two new versions of this quilt, Dusk and Dawn, by swapping the background fabrics, creating yet a different look.

More information on Night and Day and Dusk and Dawn kits and a FREE pattern download can be found here.

You can read about these quilts and the use of color in them in my blog.

Quilt Tip
We always talk about my Perfect Cut 45 degree Diamond Ruler in terms of cutting strips and individual diamonds. But did you know that it is perfect for cutting strip sets like you'll find in the Night and Day quilts above?
Once your strip sets are assembled, simply align the short 45 degree angled side of the ruler with the long edge of your strip set and cut along the long side of the ruler for a perfect 45 degree cut.

2015 Craftsy Block of the Month - Blocks 6 & 7

I have some exciting techniques to show you in this month's lesson while working on the White Oak and Birch Baskets. Besides revisiting the Golden Ratio, I will be showing you how to sew a partial seam (and how very useful it is). Then, we will work on appliqu with one of my favorite methods using heat-resistant template plastic.

Click here to see the supplies I used for this month's lesson.

It's not too late to sign up for this free BOM program. You can watch all the previous lessons and receive new ones each month. I designed the quilt to cover a variety of techniques with a different lesson each month. You will learn my tips for hand and machine piecing, foundation piecing, working with border prints, two methods of appliqu, and so much more!

Craftsy occasionally sells out of their kits but they will be restocking. If you are interested in purchasing one, be sure to get on their wait list. Click here to find all the information for the Block of the Month from Craftsy.

We've created a gorgeous fat quarter bundle of the Palette fabric used in the 2015 BOM quilt. If you love the colors in this quilt and would like to use them in a different project, this is the choice for you.

Happy Quilting!
