Happy New Year!

Skype chat with my students in the Ukraine

While the Christmas season was wonderful, filled with family, friends (and too much food!), I'm ready to look forward to the year ahead. As you receive this newsletter, I'm packing for my trip to India and excited about meeting many of you as I travel and teach throughout the year. The highlight of these trips is meeting so many wonderful quilters. Pictured above are some of my students from the Ukraine.

The Studio in Great Falls, Virginia

I haven't been able to get back there for a few years so I was thrilled to be able to Skype with them and catch up on all they have been doing. Here in the Studio, we're anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new fabric line, creating new projects and patterns, and putting the finishing touches on our next Block of the Month. We can't wait for you to join us in all that we have planned for 2014.

My Latest Collection- Milan
Milan is a historic city yet it is the leader of today's fashion and design industries. This sense of history and modern outlook is what I hoped to capture in my new Milan collection. Made up of 32 fabrics, it features 5 border prints and 4 luscious colorways along with a variety of textures. This collection is expected to arrive in the Studio and your local quilt shops by the end of the month. We are currently taking pre-orders. View the Milan collection.

New Free Pattern- Florentine

Using fabrics from my new Milan collection, Florentine uses shaded diamond units to create striking three-dimensional effects. It comes in two colorways, gold and jewel, and is framed with an elegant scroll border.  View Florentine and download the free pattern.

Making Diamonds Easy
When assembling Florentine or any diamond project, use the blunt tip of the Perfect Cut Ruler or the 60-degree templates to trim off the sharp points on each end of the of the individual diamonds or segments when strip piecing. This simplifies lining up the pieces before sewing.

New Projects with Malam Batiks
Table Runner
Quilted table runners are a great way to brighten your home décor and are wonderful and easy gifts to make. Our newest table runner design, Parallels, comes in three colorways and uses time-saving strip-piecing techniques.
Tote Bag
We love patterns from Aunties Two and we think you'll enjoy this new tote bag. "Anything Goes" uses 2˝" strips and finishes at just the perfect size. Our kits use the Malam pre-cut 2˝" pixie strips and come in three colorways. View the tote bag.

Introducing Our Free Block of the Month 2014 - Starstruck
I've designed an exciting new quilt featuring 12 different kaleidoscope-style blocks along with a shaded alternate block. We'll give you various techniques and construction methods with tips along the way as you fussy-cut and strip-piece throughout 2014. There will be six (yes, six!), different color options. Beginning in February, each monthly newsletter will include a link from which you can download a section of the pattern. The patterns are free only to our newsletter subscribers. For an inside look at my design process in creating Starstruck, watch for our new blog coming soon!

Solstice - Finishing Instructions

Congratulations! Your blocks are done and you've made it through to the finishing instructions for Solstice, our 2013 block of the month.

The complete pattern is available for free download through January 31, 2014. After that, it will be available for purchase only!

[Download link available in subscriber email only]

Remember that the only way to access the free download page is through this email. So, if you don't download the patterns immediately, be sure to save this email and download the patterns before the end of January.
We still have kits available in the original colorway.

Happy Quilting!
