February 2, 2013
Greetings!,

Have you noticed that the days are getting just a little bit longer? In another month or so, the first bulbs will be sending flowers up.  Meanwhile, there's still lots of time to settle in and do some quilting!

Will you be making Solstice, our new BOM quilt, this year?  The first free patterns are available this month, along with access to the Solstice Classroom where you'll find lots of extra sewing help!
Quasar - the newest free block pattern

If you're looking for inspiration for your next quilt project, don't forget the Quilters' Design Board on our website.  There are now 212 free quilt block patterns on the site -- one of them is sure to be just right!
Find any fabric's coordinating prints

I wanted to be sure to mention that we have a small but powerful new feature when searching for fabrics. Now when you are viewing All Fabrics or All Border Prints and you find one you like, you can click on See This Collection to view coordinating fabrics.

Last, but not least, we have set the dates for our 2013 Maryland/Northern Virginia shop hop, Quilters' Quest:November 8 - 17. This past year we had more than 1000 quilters through our shop during the 10 days of the event with almost 800 visiting all 10 shops during the Quest.  If you'd like more information, visit the Quilters' Quest website and consider subscribing to the free email newsletter.

Celebrate the Super Bowl at jinnybeyer.com
Will you be cheering on your team during the Super Bowl tomorrow?  Or will it be a great opportunity for you to escape to your sewing room for a few hours?

Either way, we'd like to help you celebrate in two ways.

#1 Save 10% on All Red or Purple Fabrics
Whether you are a 49ers or a Ravens fan, your team colors are on sale at jinnybeyer.com for one day only -- February 3, 2013.

At last count, there were almost 200 fabrics ranging from salmon to scarlet, lavender to hyacinth, and everything in between and beyond! As long as the fabric is defined as red or purple on our website, it's on sale for 10% off the regular or sale price while supplies last.

Here's what to do:
  • Visit the All Fabrics section of our website.
  • Then Narrow Your Results to red or purple.
  • Add the fabric to your cart and add the Promotion Code PUNT-IT.
You can begin shopping right away, but do not check out until February 3 ET. Orders must be placed between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on the 3rd to earn the sale price! Don't forget your promotion code -- PUNT-IT.

The sale price won't show on  your order but we'll make the adjustment when we process it. Have fun!

Fabric Football #2 Download our Free Football Pattern
I created this pattern with my good friend, Carole, several years ago, just before the 2009 Super Bowl. Occasionally, I make it available as a free download for my newsletter subscribers -- and this is one of those occasions!

Pull together some fabric scraps in your team colors and a set of shoelaces -- you can sew this one together watching the game!

The pattern will be available only until the end of February.  Then it goes off-season once more!

Sewing with Jinny: You Can Do Solstice. Honest!
Have you looked at my new BOM quilt, Solstice, and said to yourself, "It's beautiful.  But there's no way I can sew that!"

The Solstice Sewing Classroom -- loaded with
videos and resources to help make you
a more skilled quiltmaker
I want you to know that you CAN make Solstice.  And I'm going to help you.

I designed this quilt to incorporate a wide variety of essential quiltmaking techniques . . . and a few that will give your quilt some really special touches.

The pattern is very detailed. But beyond that, I've set up a web page that I'm calling the Solstice Classroom. In it, we'll post videos, tips and reference materials -- detailed information that will help you through the pattern.

Never worked with border print fabric before?  The Alternating Block uses one of my favorite and easiest tricks to get you started:  a square made from four identical triangles.

Worried about keeping those compass points sharp? Many of them are pieced on foundations for accuracy. Careful marking and sewing will take care of the rest.

You can find wonderful video demonstrations of these techniques -- and more -- already posted in the Solstice Classroom.

Solstice isn't a quilt that you'll complete in a day or a weekend. The compass blocks have to be cut, marked and sewn with care. But I assure you, the results will be worth it!

And if you have questions along the way, you can email me at
[email protected]
I'll do my best to answer the most common questions in this space.

More info on Solstice Kits.

We've also created beautiful fat quarter bundles of the fabric used in Solstice. If you love the colors in this quilt and would like to use them in a different project, this is the choice for you.
