Commissioners Vote to Appeal Zoning
Board Approval of Walgreens

By a vote of 8 to 0, the Board of Commissioners has voted to file an appeal of the June 19, 2014 decision of the Zoning Hearing Board approving the application by Walgreens for construction of a new store on the site of the Sharro gas station at Darby and Eagle Roads. Commissioner D'Emilio was absent from the meeting.

By voting to appeal the Zoning Board's decision, the Commissioners are asking the Court of Common Pleas to determine if the Zoning Board acted appropriately or abused its discretion by approving certain variances relating to parking, a drive thru, and access to the proposed store.

This process will take several months, and I will keep you apprised of future developments.

Change in Trash Schedule Saves Money

As you know, the Township revised the trash, recycling and yard waste collection schedule with a goal of encouraging residents to separate their yard waste.

  • During the first month of the program, the Township's trash stream decreased by 197 tons, reducing the trash fee that Delaware County charges Haverford Township by $6,500.00.

Unfortunately, the percentage of households recycling has decreased this year. Please recycle -- it saves tax dollars and is good for the environment.
