Another Snow Emergency

Because of the impending snow storm, and for the safety of all our Residents, First Responders and Public Works staff, the Township Manager has issued what I hope will be the last Declaration of Emergency for Haverford Township this winter. The Snow Emergency will continue until noon on Tuesday.

  • All Monday Trash collection is canceled; all Monday trash will be collected on Thursday. Tuesday trash collections remain as scheduled.
  • The Commissioners Work Session scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2014 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the Haverford Middle School. This will be the final opportunity for public comment specifically about proposed repairs or relocation of the Library.
  • Snow emergency parking restrictions will be enforced.
  • Shoveling or plowing snow into Township streets is prohibited. If you see violations, please contact the Township at (610) 446-1000. The Township strictly enforces this ordinance.
  • PECO has activated its Emergency Operations Center.

Potholes

This winter has wreaked havoc with local roads. However, it is important to note that Penndot is responsible for maintaining and repairing all 35 miles of state highways in the Township, including Eagle Road, Darby Road, Manoa Road, West Chester Pike, Lawrence Road, Ellis Road, Marple Road, Darby Creek Road, Wynnewood Road and many others. If you see a pothole on a Township road, contact (610) 446-1000. The Township also notifies Penndot about potholes and conditions on state roads.

If you see a pothole on a state road, click here to notify Penndot of your "concern." Here is Penndot's explanation of what it considers to be a concern:

"A Concern is something that requires Penndot attention for resolution such as potholes, drainage issues, or deer carcass removal. A concern should not be submitted for immediate needs or issues that could create safety concerns, like missing signs or roadway hazards. If the concern requires immediate attention, please call 1-800-FIX-ROAD to be connected directly to the county maintenance office in your area."

Haverford Township Cable Channel Update

The Haverford Township cable channel has been moved by Comcast to Channel 5; it remains on Verizon Channel 38. In addition, I am pleased to report that, upon recommendation of the Cable Television Advisory Committee, the Township is acquiring new broadcast software that will permit it to make timely notifications, reinstitute the "crawl" along the bottom of the screen, and provide breaking news such as snow emergencies. In addition, the Committee has recommended that the channel include public service videos and other announcements. When I have more information about the Cable Channel, I will let you know.

Haverford Township Day - October 11, 2014

Haverford Township Day, the biggest community event of the year, will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014. The date was moved from the traditional first Saturday in October, which coincides this year with Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. I thank the Haverford Township Day Committee for their consideration.
