Paddock Playground Update
As I noted previously, the Board of Commissioners approved the purchase and installation of a bathroom at Paddock Park. The project is more complicated than originally anticipated.
The Township and its engineer have been meeting with the manufacturer of the pre-case bathroom. Installation will require a crane, as well as additional site drawing. Once the final drawings are approved, the Township will proceed with additional pre-installation work. Further complicating the matter are fall sports, because the Township does not want to disrupt these activities. At this point, the estimated completion date is mid-November.
I will keep residents informed about the progress of the project. Fortunately, the project is moving forward and the end is in sight.

Traffic, Traffic & More Traffic
As I visit residents, I continue to be asked about traffic and parking more than any other issues, consistent with my statement that I spend about 60 to 70 percent of my time as Commissioner addressing these concerns. I recognize them and continue to do what I can to help, but it's not easy. If you have questions, please contact me -- or attend my constituent meeting next week (October 2nd) where you can raise your concerns with Township police and other officials.
In addition, I am frequently asked about the YMCA and the traffic it is expected to generate. I continue to monitor the situation and address concerns. Here is what I wrote on November 20, 2011 in my newsletter, which remains accurate:
YMCA Traffic Issues
At the Planning Commission meeting, the Y discussed plans to address the traffic the facility will generate. In particular, the Y intends to install a traffic signal at Hillcrest Avenue ... I voiced concerns -- which have been expressed to me by numerous residents -- about the impact of traffic leaving the facility and traveling across Eagle Road directly onto Hillcrest and into the Paddock Farms and other nearby neighborhoods. Because the Y did not address this concern sufficiently to me in its materials, I urged the Planning Commission to take action to address the residents' concerns and to do whatever possible to prevent further traffic into the residential neighborhoods.
As a result of my comments, the Planning Commission is requiring the Y (as a condition of approval) to conduct a traffic study showing the current patterns of traffic on the streets in that area (essentially the area bordered by Ellis Road, Darby Road, Lawrence Road, Hillcrest Avenue and adjacent streets), to conduct a study 6 months after the facility is open -- and to compare the results. The Y will then be required to report to the Township its findings and to either remediate any additional traffic or make recommendations to the Township for how to do so. This is essentially the same requirement the Planning Commission imposed on the developers of the Quarry Shopping Center on Township Line Road to address the concerns of residents in that neighborhood. I will continue to monitor the situation and to do what I can to keep non-residential traffic off of residential streets.

Recycling Event --
Saturday, October 12
On Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Marple and Haverford Townships will host a "Recycling Event" at Malin Road and West Chester Pike in Broomall. This is another opportunity for residents to responsibly recycle obsolete electronics. The service is free (except for certain TVs and computer monitors) for all residents and for small businesses with fewer than 50 employees. Electronics will be recycled by eForce Compliance, which will wipe/erase/destroy all data from all electronic media.
All electronic devices with a plug will be accepted, except for smoke detectors and large appliances. Glass tube TVs and glass computer monitors will be accepted at a cost of $20 per item. Projection TVs will also be accepted at a cost of $50 per item.
