U.S. Open Update
The latest Commissioners' newsletter contained maps of the roads that
 | U.S. Open Billboard |
will be closed, have restricted access, or will otherwise be impacted by the U.S. Open, which will be held at Merion Golf Club from June 10-16, 2013. While generally accurate, the map did not include some streets (such as portions of Ellis Road) that are closed and are "Resident Pass" areas. Click here to view the updated map of impacted roads. You can also click here to visit the U.S. Open page on my website or visit the Township website and click on the U.S. Open link on the home page.
In addition, the U.S.G.A. has mailed passes to the residents who live in a "Resident Pass Area." If you require additional passes, please contact the Township Police at 2013Open@havpd.org and include your name, address, number of passes needed, and the reason for the request. The Police will reply promptly.
I will continue to provide updated information and remind residents that, to avoid any confusion, mistakes or oversights, to please contact the Haverford Police Department (email at 2013Open@havpd.org) for answers to any questions you may have. In addition, you can always contact me at dansiegel@4haverford.com or 610-446-1117, and I will obtain answers to your questions.

About Aqua & Road Paving
Numerous streets in the 4th Ward and elsewhere in the Township have been dug up by Aqua, and the utility is now in the process of repaving the impacted streets. It is important for you to know that this is an Aqua project, and not a Township project. No tax dollars are being spent, and all work by Aqua must be performed in accordance with our Township Code.
Aqua is required by Section 157-30 of the Township Code to repave the portion of any streets it has opened, as follows:
When four or more openings, or one continuous opening, have been made within 100 linear feet of pavement, the permittee shall [pave] the traffic lanes in which the opening was made, for the entire length of highway between the ends of the furthest openings.
This means that if Aqua has made four openings in a 100 foot stretch of roadway, or has opened a 100 foot continuous stretch of roadway, it must repave the traffic lane it opened. For most streets, this means that Aqua must repave one-half of the street (one travel lane). Before the Board of Commissioners recently amended the ordinance, Aqua was only required to repave the specific part of the road it had opened. Our ordinance is similar to ordinances in neighboring communities.
I am aware that some workers are telling residents that the reason only one-half of a given road is being paved is because the Township is not paying for the work. This is not an accurate statement. The reason that only one-half of a road is being paved is because Aqua is repaving the road consistent with the Township Code.

Paddock Park Bathroom Approved
I am pleased to report that, at our May meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of a "comfort station" (most of us call it a bathroom) to be installed at the Paddock Farms Park/Playground. The Township anticipates that installation will begin soon.
