What the Township and I Are Doing

To Keep You Informed

  • I continue to visit residents to answer questions, dispel any rumors, and if necessary, direct residents to additional resources. For example, this weekend I visited residents on Hermosa Lane, Robin Lane and West Golf View Road. My goal is to visit the homes on the 4th Ward streets most impacted by the Open in the next few weeks.
  • The Police Department has created a dedicated email address - 2013open@havpd.org - for residents seeking additional information.
  • In addition, you can always contact me at dansiegel@4haverford.com or 610-446-1117, and I will obtain answers to any questions you might have.
Paddock Farms Yard Sale

Paddock Farms The Paddock Farms Civic Association will hold a Spring Neighborhood Yard Sale on Saturday, May 18th from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A map and list of participating households will be available at www.paddockfarmscivic.org  as the date of the event approaches. In addition, maps will be made available on the sale day to visitors at the Paddock Farms sign located at Hillcrest and Woodleigh Roads. The Paddock Farms neighborhood is bordered by Darby Road, Eagle Road (from Darby to Hillcrest) and Ellis Road (from Golf Hills to Ardmore/Darby).

For Paddock Farms Residents Who Want to Participate:

If you want to participate, the Civic Association is requesting a $5.00 contribution to help defray the costs associated with paid newspaper advertising and signage. In return for your contribution, your address will be listed on the Association's website and in other electronic communications. In addition, a map/listing flyer of paid participants will be made available on the sale day to visitors at the Paddock Farms sign (near the main entrance to the Park at Hillcrest Avenue and Woodleigh Road).

To participate, please use the Civic Association's event ticketing payment system at www.paddockfarmscivic.org. Click on the event details, click "Buy Tickets" and complete your payment. Please remit payment no later than May 11th. At this time, the Civic Association is only accepting online payments.

Tree Tenders

Many of the largest trees in the Township have been lost over the past 20 years. For the most part, they had reached the end of their expected life cycle because most were planted 75 to 100 years ago when our Township neighborhoods were developed. While theKwanzan Cherry Tree Township has planted replacement street trees over the years, the species have generally been small and medium-sized varieties. Because large-species trees enhance the environment exponentially over smaller varieties, the Township and Tree Tenders will be offering 60 free trees to residents who will plant the largest sized shade trees (50' or taller at maturity) in their front yards. Some trees may also be planted in the median strips of major Township roads and in parks throughout the Township.

Trees are subject to availability and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis - one per address. Spring 2013 planting day is Saturday, May 18, 2013. Interested residents must fill out and return the order form and sign the waiver by Friday, May 10, 2013. Order forms are available online or may be picked up in the Public Works Department in the Township Building. Click here to view the flyer containing the application and other information.

Green Vehicle / Green Home Owners Wanted for Education/Outreach

If you are proud of your Electric/Hybrid/Alternative Fuel Vehicle or Green home technology and want to help others better understand what is available on the market today, please let us the Township's Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) know if you can participate in public outreach.

Part of the EAC's mission is outreach, and it anticipates holding Green Vehicle and Green Home "Expos" (e.g., Earth Day, Haverford Township Day). Participation might involve displaying your hybrid/electric car, hybrid/electric bicycle or other green technology and answering questions other residents may have.

Please email peter.puglionesi@appliedehs.com describing your Green Vehicle/Home, or for further information.  Emailing is just to gauge your interest and does not commit you to participating.

Meals on Wheels Needs Volunteer Delivery Drivers

Meals on Wheels, an all-volunteer, non-profit group providing delivery of meals at cost to homebound handicapped and elderly persons who cannot shop and/or cook for themselves, needs delivery drivers.  The time commitment is between 10:45 a.m. to approximately noon on a weekday once or twice per month (your choice).

Job requirements: In addition to a car and valid driver's license, you must be punctual, dependable and have a friendly smile.

Meals On Wheels' need is critical as summer vacations approach.  Also, if the group takes on additional clients, it will need to add another route.  If you are interested, please call Dolores (610) 359-8990 so that she can coordinate your training and explain your responsibilities.
