U.S. Open Road Closure & Other Information
At my semi-annual 4th Ward Constituent Meeting on March 12th, the USGA and the Township provided extensive information about road closures and parking, and addressed residents' concerns about the U.S. Open, which will be held from June 10 to 16, 2013 at the Merion Golf Club, a portion of which is located in the 4th Ward.
The following links provide information about the event and the Township's plans:
View the U.S. Open page on my website, which summarizes the Township's plans, including road closures.
View the PowerPoint presented by the Haverford Township Police Department to view all of the information presented to residents at my meeting.
The Police Department has created a dedicated email address - 2013open@havpd.org - for residents seeking additional information.
In addition, you can always contact me at dansiegel@4haverford.com or 610-446-1117, and I will obtain answers to any questions you might have.

Paving is scheduled to be done on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
Flaggers will be in place for traffic control. Please be patient or find alternative routes. Please note that the project could be delayed because of inclement weather.

Other Constituent Meeting Highlights
Thank you to everyone who attended my March 12th constituent meeting; the residents filled the Commissioners Meeting Room. In addition to the U.S. Open, Township officials (Township Manager Larry Gentile, Assistant Township Manager Lori Hanlon-Widdop, Police Chief Carmen Pettine, Deputy Police Chief John Viola, and Police Officer Larry Howard) addressed residents' concerns, including:
- The intersection of Darby Road and Eagle Road (particularly the difficult left turn from Darby Road at the gas station);
- Traffic on Eagle Road near the YMCA;
- YMCA-related traffic concerns;
- Mulching and composting;
- Trash and recycling issues, including the enormous savings that result when residents recycle;
- Various neighborhood traffic concerns;
- The condition of Marple Road (see below);
- Taxes; and,
- Other issues.
If you could not attend the meeting, feel free (as always) to contact me with your concerns. I will forward them to the appropriate Township official so that they are addressed promptly.
Also, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person, in addition to my regular "door knocking." Just give me a call (610-446-1117) or email me at dansiegel@4haverford.com and I will setup a time to get together.

Other Construction Information
Paddock Park Restroom -- Construction has begun on the new restroom at the Paddock Park/Playground. The project will be completed in stages. The first stage is the installation of the sewer lines to the bathroom location adjacent to the concession stand. I know how important this renovation is and am pleased that it is finally underway.
Marple Road -- I have received more complaints about the condition of Marple Road than about any other road in the 4th Ward. Because it is a state road, Penndot, not the Township, is responsible for the road. Penndot has begun patching the road and has also informed the Township that it will be repaved in 2014. While we all would like the work to begin this year, we are at least pleased to learn the work will be completed.
Thanks also to Penndot for trimming the dangerous trees that were overhanging on Darby Road and for responding to the complaints and concerns of our residents.

Bubble Gum Factory Litigation Update
The Court of Common Pleas in Media has issued a number of rulings favorable to the Township in its litigation with the former owners of the bubble gum factory on Eagle Road. The owners are seeking additional compensation beyond what the Township has already paid. The rulings dramatically limit the claims against the Township.
As noted by Township Solicitor Jim Byrne at the March Commissioners meeting, my law firm and I provided extensive assistance to Mr. Byrne's office in drafting the various legal filings that resulted in these decisions by the Court. We look forward to continuing to work with the Solicitor and to assuring that the owners' claims are limited.

In conjunction with the replacement of parking meters throughout the Township, a new Parking Card is available that will allow residents to purchase parking in advance and use the cards in the new meters (the cards will work in all meters except the Oakmont and Brookline kiosks. This Is My 100th Newsletter
This is the 100th Email Newsletter that I have sent to residents since being elected in 2008. I want to thank all of you for your comments and suggestions, and am pleased that the newsletter -- and my website -- have proven to be a valuable resource to so many residents.
In addition, the Township will begin sending email newsletters to residents and that I am working closely with the Township so that the project is a success.
My newsletters have also been honored by Constant Contact, the service I use, as being among the most successful newsletters in terms of the number of people who view them and who visit other web pages from the links in the newsletters. Please continue to provide feedback so that the Newsletters contain the information you need and want.

Take Advantage of the Haverford Library
Did you know that the Haverford Township Free Library is the busiest library in Delaware County? If you didn't, you should visit and take advantage of the library's extensive resources. Click here to visit the Library's website and learn about its collections and programs.
Recently, I presented a program at the library about audiobooks; in addition, at the Commissioners' March meeting, I donated a copy of my new book, Android Apps in One Hour for Lawyers, to the library.
Visit the library and discover what you've been missing.
