March 12th Constituent Meeting

To Discuss U.S. Open & Other Issues

My semi-annual 4th Ward Constituent Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Quatrani Building, located behind the Township Building at 2325 Darby Road. This meeting will include a presentation by and discussion with aUS Open 2013  representative of the U.S. Open, which will be held during the week of June 2nd at the Merion Golf Club, a portion of which is located in the 4th Ward. The meeting will provide information about road closures and other ways in which the event will impact local residents. Please tell your friends and neighbors about the meeting so that they can get answers and information, and not rely on rumors. If you cannot attend the meeting, and have questions, please send me an email at [email protected] or give me a call at (610) 446-1117.

Following the U.S. Open portion of the meeting, I will host my traditional semi-annual constituent meeting. In attendance will be the Township Manager, Police officials, and other Township officials to answer questions and address any concerns you might have. These popular meetings provide an opportunity to speak directly with Township representatives. As always, if you cannot attend the meeting, and have questions, send an email to [email protected] or give me a call at (610) 446-1117.

A 5th Ward meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 19, 2013 at 7 p.m., and a 3rd Ward meeting is tentatively scheduled for March 20, 2013 at 7 p.m.

Apply for Cable TV Board Openings

Each year, the Board of Commissioners appoints residents toCable TV  various Boards and Commissions. This year, there remain four openings on the five-member Cable TV Board (I serve as Chair of the Commissioners' Cable TV Committee). We need volunteers to serve on this Committee, which can make recommendations to improve the Township's cable television channel and to assure that residents receive timely information about Township activities. The deadline for applying for the Committee is February 28, 2013. After applications are received, the Board will interview applicants and then vote on persons to fill the vacant slots at our March 11th meeting. Click here for more information.

Civic Council Survey

The Haverford Civic Council is conducting its periodic survey about residents' interests. Interestingly, the Civic Council's 2010 survey revealed that numerous residents consider my website and electronic newsletters to be an important source of information about the Township. If you agree, please note this when completing the survey. Click here to take the survey.

Be Considerate of Your Neighbors:

Pick-Up Pet Waste

Pet waste is a source of many harmful microorganisms that can be transmitted from the waste to humans if it is not promptly picked up and disposed of. Many of these microorganisms will last months in the soil, and some up to four years, if not immediately cleaned up from lawns, along trails, in parks or preserves. Children and landscape workers who care for our lawns, gardens, and public areas are most at risk. Dog waste is also a significant source of bacterial and nutrient contamination to streams, especially during the "first flush" from a rain storm, which carries the majority of the pollution washing off of lawns and hard surfaces.

To protect your family and to be considerate of your fellow residents, please remember to "scoop the poop" with a plastic bag and dispose of it promptly in a public trash can or your own trash receptacle (not your neighbor's trash can or down storm drains, please!), and wash your hands.

Composting or burying your pet's waste does not destroy harmful organisms. Please don't go barefoot or wear open shoes in dog parks or other areas where dogs frequently deposit waste; it is also not advisable for young children to play in these areas.
