Haverford Township Returning to Normal |
This is my final update for Hurricane Sandy. Distribution of these newsletters will return to their normal periodic schedule.
Thank you for allowing me to send you the updates
during and after the storm. |
Current Status
According to PECO, there were 77 customers without power in Haverford Township as of mid-afternoon, with 23,740 total PECO customers remaining without power in the region. In addition, Darby Road has reopened. Thus, all major roads in the Township are open.
Trash & Leaves
Trash collection will return to normal, with regular 4th Ward trash collection on Monday. In addition, Township crews have resumed leaf collection, and should complete their work in the 4th Ward early this week. Leaf collection schedules will be available at the polls on Tuesday. You can also view the schedule by clicking here. |
Thank You
First, I would like to thank the Township officials and staff who worked tirelessly to prepare for and help the Township deal with the impact of Hurricane Sandy. We needed a team effort to help address the damage the storm caused, and everyone chipped in, including the Public Works staff, Police, EMTs, fire fighters, and residents. Thank you to everyone for all you have done!
Second, thank you to PECO, Comcast and Verizon. It is easy to criticize large utilities, and it is also safe to say that there were some problems with restoring power. But overall, these companies were prepared, and their workers (and the many who came from throughout the country to help) were stellar.
Third, my thanks to the Township staff for helping me provide updates to residents. I also appreciate greatly all of the positive feedback I received about my newsletters -- in the form of approximately 60 thank you emails. I enjoy being a Commissioner, but I feel a special gratitude for all of your kindness.
Finally, I am working with the Township so that the systems that I use to communicate with residents may be expanded Township-wide. |

Please drop off your donations at the Haverford Township Building, 2325 Darby Road, Havertown, from Monday, November 5th to Wednesday, November 7th. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Donation stations will also be setup at all Haverford Township polling places on Tuesday, November 6th.
You can also make tax-deductible donations by sending a check to the Haverford Township Civic Council, P.O. Box 1072, Havertown, PA 19083; credit card donations are being accepted at www.haverfordciviccouncil.org.
Volunteers are also needed to transport and sort donated items. Please email demilios@uphs.upenn.edu or Mario@2ndwardnews.com for details about how to volunteer.
Box trucks are needed for delivery of the donations on Saturday, November 10th. Please call Commisioners Steve D'Emilio (484-571-5521) and Mario Oliva (610-551-3846) if you can donate the use of a truck that day. |
Vote on Tuesday, November 6th
Please vote on Tuesday, November 6th. To me, it is among the greatest, if not the greatest, benefit of living in a democracy -- the ability to choose our leaders and to help direct the future of our communities, our state and our country. |
