The editor's club was on fire last week! Thank you to new members for actually reading what we write. And to everyone who reads the round up whether you have editing genes or not!

Thank you to folks who "liked" KWMR on Facebook. If you aren't a big social media user, more power to you, but if you are and can take a click over to the KWMR Facebook page, that would be swell.

I am aware that it is "giving Tuesday." What does that actually mean? Not sure, but here are some ways you can "give" to KWMR! I know that giving can make you feel great!

Thank you to everyone who has donated a vehicle to KWMR! The station benefits greatly from these donations. If you have a vehicle that is no longer doing you any favors, think about donating it. The proceeds really help "drive" our work. Learn more HERE.

KWMR is listener supported. You can contribute any time. Your donations are tax deductible as provided by law since KWMR is  501c3. Does your employer have a matching program for donations? Take advantage of this and double your gift to KWMR! If you are a Federal employee, KWMR is a registered CFC charity.

Not to be too morbid, but when my husband and I revisited our wills, I included KWMR with a bequest. Mind you, it's not enough to be worth bumping me off to keep the radio station going, but it will make a difference down the road. I have spoken to others who have done the same. Keep KWMR in mind as you plan for the future!

And gifting securities, stocks that have increased in value to a non profit can be a real boost to the organization ,and have positive tax benefits to the donor (you!). KWMR is set up to receive such gifts.

As always, thank you for your interest, care and feedback of this amazing community resource.

Giving Thanks for Giving

"We must find time to stop and thank the people who made a difference in our lives."

-      John F. Kennedy

Whether you "thank goodness" Thanksgiving is over, or are already thinking of Thanksgiving next year, this thank-filled hour is all for you. You're welcome.

"Thank" is a Germanic term which came from the word "think." The term "thank you" originally meant "I will remember what you did for me."

"You made me glad, when I was blue. And eternally I'll always be In love with you. And all I gotta do is thank you girl, thank you girl."- The Beatles

Polite people say "please" and "thank you" daily. These good-humored sayings are ingrained into our society. The concept of thanking appears in the bible, our classic plays, our favorite books, our songs, and our poems.

"Thanked be fortune it hath been otherwise

Twenty times better; but once, in special,

In thin array, after a pleasant guise,

When her loose gown from her shoulders did fall,

And she me caught in her arms long and small;

Therewith all sweetly did me kiss,

And softly said, 'Dear heart, how like you this?'"

-   Remembrance by Sir Thomas Wyatt

Not all cultures say "thank you." In some places, saying thanks is actually considered bad manners. In the Philippines and India, people are supposed to perform small favors for each other. They do not say "thank you" because they feel it is not necessary. In China, saying "thank you" is seen as a formality. Therefore, friends and family members do not regularly say "thank you" to each other.

"And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles, Thanks to you it will be done, for you to me are the only one." - Led Zeppelin

Although the word "thank" stems from a German word, you might not be thanked with a smile in Germany. According to several etiquette resources, smiling when you meet someone is considered strange. People only smile when something makes them happy or when they find something funny. Otherwise, many Germans avoid smiling. Also, telling someone to have a nice day is considered insincere.

Not everyone is thankful. The term "thankless" originated in 1530. Thankless was used by Shakespeare in King Lear in 1606: "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is, to have a thankless child!"

"You may not have a car at all. But just remember brothers and sisters,

you can still stand tall. Just be thankful for what you've got." - Massive Attack

The concept of "thanking someone for nothing" joined the vernacular in 1703, according to Online Etymology Dictionary. Thank goodness!

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." - John F. Kennedy
