KWMR has new bumper stickers! They include the new 92.3 FM signal info for the San Geronimo Valley! They are a lovely shade of blue with nice yellow letters and numbers and just the right amount of red.

I was at the Inverness Fair this weekend enjoying the ambiance, music, food and company while handing out the new bumper stickers.

Some folks would gladly take them to upgrade to the new sticker from their old sticker, others - not so much.

"Hey, how about your guitar case!" was my usual response. Some folks were very frank about their "no bumper sticker" rules. A few did not want their vehicles to be "identified" so easily. I pondered this, and completely understand the sentiment.

Peter McLaren upgraded to a new sticker!
But I have an idea! We'll call it the "bumper sticker theory."

What if EVERYONE had KWMR bumper stickers so the only way you would "stand out" is to NOT have one? What do you think about that idea? Is your mind blown yet?

I throw it out as a straw man concept. Give it some thought. It's pretty important for folks to know that there is a local radio station that has the ability to communicate emergency information about incidents from traffic interruption to full-scale natural disasters - with LOCAL information.
No need to be this dramatic, you can put your new sticker, over your old sticker!

Maybe you can help spread the word. Would you like a new bumper sticker? If so, let us know and we will get you one.

Thanks!

Handing off the Classical Baton

Outgoing Classical Music Director Janet Robbins is passing the baton to incoming Classical Music Director Paul Smith

From Janet Robbins:

KWMR's classical music library began in 1999 with a box of LPs and around 50 or so CDs, mostly gifts from Radio Netherlands. Janet Robbins took over organizing the library. She contacted all the big (and small) music labels, requesting promotional copies of their new releases. Today, our classical library probably has close to 2000 CDs on the shelves.

With two new grandchildren this year, and a lot of travel away from West Marin, Janet is delighted that KWMR's classical programmer Paul Smith has agreed to take over the reins, and steer this glorious music forward.

Paul is Artistic Director of Contemporary Opera Marin, the opera program at the College of Marin. You can hear him hosting classical favorites on KWMR on the 2nd, 4th and 5th Wednesdays from 2 to 4 pm.  Janet will continue hosting on the 3rd Friday from 2 to 5 pm (when she's in town!)

KWMR thanks Janet Robbins for her hard work and dedication as a volunteer at KWMR and welcomes Paul Smith!

Attend an original "Poet-orio For Mother Earth" with Joyce Kouffman and friends!

Calling all music- and poetry- and film- and nature-lovers! Mark your calendar for 2 PM on Saturday, September 13th, at the Point Reyes Presbyterian Church, for a one-of-a-kind creative event that KWMR is proud to co-sponsor.

West Marin composer and multi-instrumentalist, Joyce Kouffman, is producing a "Poet-orio For Mother Earth" with a number of other artists. Renowned poets Jane Hirshfield and - visiting from afar - Linda Pastan (former poet laureate in Maryland) will read from their work. Joyce will premiere new "concert" and cross-over music inspired by their poems that resonate with our living world. Her compositions will be linked with original short "earth music films" by Joyce with Inverness film-editor Corey Ohama. Robin Livingston is mixing the sound recordings.

Live music performed at the "Poet-orio" will include spirited jazz with the beloved Mary Watkins on piano, Cindy Browne on bass, and Joyce on drums. The trio revisits favorites from their album "Song For My Mother" - played here for Mother Earth.

Other surprises are in store. Says Joyce, "This is an invitation for people to experience and deepen their connections with our living world, through beauty in multiple genres and media." Artists Toni Littlejohn and Nancy Stein will exhibit paintings that enhance the physical setting.

Where:Point Reyes Presbyterian Church.

When: Saturday, September 13th

at 2 PM.

Cost: $20 advance, $25 at the door, with advance tickets and more information at

Along with KWMR, the co-sponsors for "Poet-orio" are Point Reyes Books, Cowgirl Creamery, Garden of Eden, and many local contributors through the fiscal sponsor Gallery Route One.
