KWMR is very proud of the Youth DJ Project. Last summer in 2013, KWMR was fortunate to have Camila Flowerman as an intern at the station. Carleton College funded Camila's work on the Youth DJ Project at KWMR. We are so grateful. Camila's work laid a solid foundation.

This week Declan Katz will host "Declan's Hour of Soul" for one last time before he heads off to college in Arizona. Declan hopes to pick up some sub shifts when he returns for the holidays and says that his time at KWMR was really valuable and that he had a great time.

If you have become hooked on Devon McMorrow's "Retro Rock Hour", a heads up! Devon's school schedule will require her to move to a new time/day in September. Alternate Monday mornings starting September 8th you can find Devon on the airwaves. But alternate Wednesdays at 4 pm until then!

Youth DJ Project (YDP) can be heard Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4-5 pm. Michael Dunn was spinning some great old jazz tunes yesterday. These young folks really have it going on and are worth a listen.

KWMR thanks "The Lounge" and "The Loft" for participating in YDP, and looks forward to more young DJs joining us on the airwaves!

Congratulations Krista Tippett

Krista Tippett, creator and host of the public radio show "On Being"  has been honored with the 2013 National Humanities Medal. Tippett received the award from President Obama at a White House ceremony, along with nine other Americans whose work has broadened the nation's cultural understanding and engagement with the humanities.

The White House cited Tippett's achievements in "thoughtfully delving into the mysteries of human existence. On the air and in print, Ms. Tippett avoids easy answers, embracing complexity and inviting people of all faiths, no faith, and every background to join the conversation."

"On Being" is heard on more than 330 U.S. public radio stations and globally by podcast. The program and its multi-media platforms, originally called "Speaking of Faith" when it launched weekly in 2003, has garnered multiple other honors, including a Peabody Award and three Webby Awards. Tippett also is the author of two books, including the New York Times bestseller, "Einstein's God." The radio program is distributed by American Public Media.

"On Being" airs on KWMR from 1-2 pm on Tuesdays.

Jesse De Natale, Jonathan Richman and Tommy Larkins
Performing in Point Reyes Station on Sunday, August 10.
Jesse De Natale

Doors at 6:30 pm and show at 7 pm

A benefit for the Porrata-Powell family.

Jesse De Natale wanted very much to figure out a way he could help when he heard about Ezequiel's rare form of cancer and then that soon after the diagnosis that Ezequiel's father Ron Powell had passed away in his sleep, he wanted to help. This benefit raises funds to help with the costs associated with medical treatment. Ezequiel's mother Alex and his sister Lu along with grandparents Carlos and Rebecca are longtime residents of West Marin. Carlos serves on the KWMR Advisory Board and Alex is a former KWMR Board member.

Jesse De Netale can do this by doing something that he loves - playing music. Joining Jesse for an evening of music as well as a silent auction and a raffle, will be Jonathan Richman and his drummer Tommy Larkins.

Tickets can be purchased in advance via www.slimspresents.com for $20 each.
