I was pondering life last weekend and half listening to KWMR. The opening song for Circulo Musical, hosted by Jesus Martinez came on the air and I immediately felt calmer. It's not that I was anxious to begin with, but there is something about Jesus' program that I find relaxing. He has a soothing voice and plays lovely music - the opening song indicates what is to come.
Lyons Filmer, Program Director here at KWMR impresses upon programmers who are developing a new program to find some opening and closing music that you can "frame" your show with. It helps the listener quickly identify with the program.
Several examples come to mind for me. The memorable tune that accompanies Turning Pages at Nature's Pace hosted by Janet Robbins and Lyons Filmer. The signature opening background tones of Faultline Radio. Larry Rippee's opening song on Coast Highway Blues and the distinctive song that sets the tone for the Barbarian Beach Party, to name a few.
In fact it was Rick Clark's opening song that lured Katie Eberle to the front door of KWMR. Lyons Filmer prefers an instrumental number while I am open to songs with lyrics.
Do you have a favorite opening/closing song from a program on KWMR? Why do you like it? Email me and let me know!

Not actual pig.
|
KWMR is proud to provide updates for weather and traffic for listeners and we occasionally get a request to disseminate information in the community that will make a difference.
This story was told to me by classical programmer Susan Deixler.
On Sunday afternoon Susan's sister-in-law and her cousin were walking on the trail to Shell Beach. They encountered a pig walking on the trail. When they got home they phoned the sheriff and the humane society to report the unusual wildlife sighting.
Susan arrived and suggested that they contact KWMR to get the word out and hopefully reunite the pig with it's owners. Programmer Beth Underwood was on the air and broadcasted the information over the KWMR airwaves.
The pig was reunited with it's owners!
