6:30-8:30 pm "Release Me" with Amanda. Through a career spanning four decades, Johnny Paycheck sang songs of madness, murder, pain, nuclear annihilation, loneliness, hate AND love-songs delivered with such passion and soul that he made the listener believe he had lived each of those songs in real life.  And, in several cases, he had.  Johnny remains one of the greatest and most under-appreciated voices in country music.  JP died in February of 2003, and to mark the occasion, Red Meat manager Owen Bly joins us for a two-hour journey through Johnny's career.  We'll explore his early days in the early 60s performing as Donny Young, through his years on the Little Darlin' label, and his turmoil-filled comeback in the 70s as one of country's original outlaws.  We may even play "Take This Job and Shove It," though Johnny would be the first to tell you there are no guarantees in this life.

Community
by Amanda Eichstaedt
I have lived in many communities, some for short periods of time, barely long enough to learn my way around, and many not long enough to put down even the smallest of roots. I have now lived in West Marin longer than anywhere except where I grew up. I left home just days after graduating from high school thirty years ago.

This community cares about its members and I'm sure that it has done so for generations. In my short time here I have witnessed several "comings together" where support was provided for community members that needed it. In 2009 the community rallied support via a benefit for Linda Petersen after she was injured in a car crash. In 2010 long-time resident Vince Saccommanos received community support after his accident which left him with injuries from electrocution. There have been many such events to support beloved members of the community.

KWMR is announcing on the air the benefits scheduled to raise funds to support Alex Porrata and her children EZ and Lu after EZ's diagnosis with Rhabdomyosarcoma, for which he is receiving treatment for the next year. Ron Powell, Alex's husband and loving father to EZ and Lu passed away just days after EZ was home from his first round of treatments. Alex grew up in West Marin and served on the KWMR Board and her father Carlos Porrata is a current KWMR Advisory Board member.

We will keep the KWMR community, on air as well as through the Round Up newsletter updated as opportunities to show support are scheduled.

Sunday, February 23 from 10 am to noon. At Five Brooks Ranch in Olema hosted by Five Brooks Ranch and the Station House Cafe. Pony rides and brunch along with a "Silent Auction." For more information or to donate to the auction contact Andrew at 415-706-4450.

Tuesday, February 25 from 7 - 9 pm. At the Pine Cone Diner in Point Reyes Station. House concert featuring live music, coffee and desserts featuring the music of Buzz Holland, Duck Holland and Gary Vogensen. For reservations please call 415-663-8625.

Friday, March 1 from 6 to 9 pm. At the Dance Palace Community Center. Motown in our Town. This is a free event. Learn to shimmy like a background singer from 6 - 7 pm, then get down to the live soul and R&B from Harry and the Hitmen. Cathy Maxwell organized this event to celebrate that we are all backup singers for one another. There will be an opportunity to donate to the Ronneil Powell Memorial Fund at this event.
