Las Vegas - Sept. 20th to 23rd!

July / Aug 2015

A message from your new NCISS President
Join us for Hit the Hill!

Dear Members and Colleagues:

It's that time of year again when NCISS will be holding its Mid-Term board meeting and Seminars. This year we are excited to have as our co-sponsor the Nevada Society of Professional Investigators and Arizona Association of Licensed Private Investigators.

Please put September 20 through 22, 2015 on your calendars now for this important event. We are finalizing the agenda and featured speakers that will educate you and promote strong relationships among your many colleagues from across the country.

Prompt registration greatly assists our planning.  Also, we have a limited number of rooms at the new SLS Hotel on The Strip for only $65 per night.  Rooms are available for pre and post stays.  Many of us will be arriving on Friday or Saturday night.  We hope to welcome a number of attendees from the Nevada and Arizona associations.  Please register at http://www.nciss.org/news-and-events/the-full-event.php?eid=79

Calling all golfers and non golfers that are willing to stay an extra day through the 23rd. NCISS will be reserving tee times at The Lexington Course at Revere (http://reveregolf.com/golf-las-vegas). The fee looks to be about $45.00 per person. This has the makings of a special way to end a great conference and seminar. All the information you need can be found at www.NCISS.org.

Many of you know that July 24th 2015 is Private Investigators Day, Commemorating the birth year of Eugene Francois Vidocq. Eugene founded the first known Detective Agency in 1833.

The event is formerly adopted and recognized by the National Council of Investigation & Security Services, the World Association of Detectives, the National Association of Legal Investigators, the Association of British Investigators and governing bodies and up to 80, 000 individual private investigators throughout the world.

This year's them: "A valuable asset to the community since 1833". Go to https://www.facebook.com/events/369783936544595 to show your support.

Advocacy Hub

NCISS continues to show leadership and its commitment to State Association outreach with the release of the new Advocacy Hub (AH). The AH is a wonderful tool for State Associations to monitor legislation effecting their state. The AH not only identifies certain pieces legislation, it can be helpful with call to action letters from your members to your Congressional and House Representatives.

The AH will continue to add more features as we learn more about the issues that have an impact on your business. The AH link can be found our website, via this short link http://goo.gl/QSCcgc

The NCISS leadership team looks forward to seeing all of you in DC.

Regards,

James E. Huckabee

COMING SOON - New Website!

The NCISS website has been hacked several times, most recently during dues renewal.  That is not something NCISS has taken lightly.  After several discussions with the site developer, it was determined that a different and more practical approach was needed for the security of our members, ease of use and more functionality.  The solution was to move to an Association Management Software (AMI) service.  Multiple AMIs were considered and the Board voted to use MemberClicks - which should be familiar to those members of WAD, as well as TALI and CALI.

The work to make the transition has been ongoing through July and is about done.  The new site will have a familiar, but fresh look and more functionality for you, as well as the administrator and content manager.  Ease of online membership applications, dues renewals, events registration and membership profiles will be seen.  Please look for a special announcement, hopefully by the end of July.

Now 3x per year!  Look for the next issue of your new
The Advocate, in your mailbox, in early August!

2nd Vice President, Terry Myer, shares with us his philosophy on the importance of supporting NCISS and your state associations...

Legislative protection comes in 2 halves:
1st half is "State Association"
2nd half is "The Advocate at NCISS"

NCISS reaches over 1100 investigators and security consultants in your  national trade journal, The NCISS journal, 'Your Advocate', delivered by direct mail to the agency owners who have an interest in events in Washington, D.C.

The journal is now mailed times each year (before Hit the Hill and fall conference, and year end) and is also available online.  We welcome contributions on investigation or security related topics of interest to our members. If you have news or an idea for an article contact your Regional Director or Advocate editor. In the meantime, check out current and past issues at  http://www.nciss.org/news-and-events/nciss-advocate.php.

In an effort to make sure our members are current on news of their professions, the bi-monthly electronic bulletin, The eAdvocate, is sent via email.

If you have news or an idea for either Your Advocate or The eAdvocate, contact the editor, Dean A. Beers, at editor@nciss.org

Region News and State Association Updates

Don Johnson From Don Johnson, past Regional Director

In the last issue Dean Gluth, Regional Director, updated NCISS with news from Indiana.  At that time Dean was working with other NCISS members, including Don Johnson, to prevent the repeal of private investigator licensing in Indiana.  The good news is all the efforts paid off, but Don notes that the issue will likely return again.  Don updates us with the following:

Earlier this year the governor's committee in Indiana, known as the Job Creation Committee, was scheduled to review the Private Investigator and Security Guard Licensing Board, among other boards and commissions that are part of the Professional Licensing Agency. The JCC had to issue its recommendations to the governor and the legislature by July 1, on the boards it reviewed this year. Included a link to the report, on page 78 is the JCC's recommendation regarding the PISG board.   http://www.in.gov/pla/3144.htm

"The Jobs Creation Committee has tabled making a preliminary recommendation regarding the Private Investigator and Security Guard Licensing Board and the licenses issued by the Board. The JCC will seek additional information from stakeholders, association representatives and the public as concerns the private investigator and security guard industries with the intent to submit a recommendation in the next annual report."

Thanks Dean and Don, all all involved!  It is the efforts of state associations, and support of NCISS, that bring these positive results for our professions.

Terry Myer, Sr. - 2nd Vice President

Terry was joined by Francie Koehler and others in riding their Harley Davidsons to the annual CALI conference. In addition to representing NCISS and mission, several new members were signed up!  Terry was given time to talk about NCISS and the importance of membership support in CALI (or your state association) and NCISS for national legislative advocacy.
