A message from your new NCISS President40 Years Young!
|
Dear Members and Colleagues:
NCISS will be celebrating 40 years being "Your Voice in Washington and Across America" next year. What better way to start our celebration that in the nation's capital this spring.
It's not too early to begin planning for your attendance and join the National Council of Investigation and Security Services (NCISS) 2015 Mid Term HIT THE HILL event. The historic Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria will be our host hotel again this year.
Mid-term elections this November mean the players in Congress and the House will be changing. This means new relationships will need to be made with those new players. That's where the importance of Hit the Hill comes in play. The hill needs to know about what's important to our industry.
This year we are expecting more first timers than ever this year. I would like to welcome you to the Nation's Capital as we visit the nation's Congressional Senate and House representatives and make them aware of the various pieces of legislation that NCISS either supports or apposes. Soon you will get information to help you set appointments with your representatives.
I want to thank the Vice Presidents and Regional Directors for doing a superb job attending state association conferences all across the country. As a result many new industry professionals have joined NCISS and will be joining us this April.
Mark your calendars for April, 11 through the 15th 2015 The NCISS website www.nciss.org will be your resource and registration as we get closer to April.
Advocacy Hub
NCISS continues to show leadership and its commitment to State Association outreach with the release of the new Advocacy Hub (AH). The AH is a wonderful tool for State Associations to monitor legislation effecting their state. The AH not only identifies certain pieces legislation, it can be helpful with call to action letters from your members to your Congressional and House Representatives.
The AH will continue to add more features as we learn more about the issues that have an impact on your business. The AH link can be found our website, via this short link http://goo.gl/QSCcgc
The NCISS leadership team looks forward to seeing all of you in DC.
Regards,
James E. Huckabee

SAAB / SLAM
State Association Advisory Board and
State Legislation Awareness Monitoring Program
|
One of the most exciting new benefits is the improvement of two of the most important purposes and benefits of NCISS...
NCISS continues to monitor those legislative issues that impact professional investigators and security personnel throughout the country. Of concern is federal legislation and rule making, as well as with states and their associations on local matters. The SAAB / SLAM Program is a cooperation of member state associations to assist with responding to their legislative needs, while increasing the strength of NCISS responding to federal legislation and regulation. In addition, the SAAB / SLAM Program benefits NCISS membership through increased networking, leadership mentoring and continuity, with the ability to proactively monitor and appropriately respond.
To make this work, NCISS needs to know what legislation your state is interested in monitoring. The Legislative Advocacy Hub is based on keywords to find specific legislation among the thousands that are introduced nationwide every year.
For current state legislation being monitored at NCISS.org: Legislation ==> Advocacy Hub ==> State Legislation
For updates of SAAB / SLAM, please visit http://www.nciss.org/about-us/state-association-advisory-board.php
From NCISS - Lobbying in your State
If you are interested in establishing a state lobbying program in your state, a PowerPoint presentation on this subject entitled "10 Steps to Building You State Lobbying Program." is at: http://www.nciss.org/legislation/documents/Program.pdf
Also provided on the web site for the National Council of Investigative and Security Services is a compendium of key legislation by state. Check out: http://www.nciss.org/legislation/latest-legislation.php and go to the link entitled "State Legislation." There you will see an interactive United States Map. The states shown in blue are links to the associated state's pending legislation. The white states are states that either have no pending bills of interest or are not in session. You can also page down to your state where it is listed alphabetically.
While you are noodling around the web site, check out the recently launched "Advocacy Hub." If you have not heard about the "Advocacy Hub," the Hub allows members to send letters to key legislators and government officials right from the web site. Currently there are two items pending. Check them out!
If you have any questions about Advocacy Hub or how NCISS can assist you or your state association's legislative program, please contact your Regional Director.

Legislative Watch - Security & Investigations

In the month of October, Lobbyit met with the Senate Commerce Committee to stay abreast of issues which may arise during the "lame duck" session of Congress, and composed a summary of Supreme Court oral arguments on FTC regulation of state licensing bodies, and a reminder to NCISS members to get engaged on the Advocacy Hub.

Recent Legislative Alerts from NCISS
Membership Reminder from NCISS/Lobbyit - Advocay Hub Awaits Your Contribution (11/12/2014) The Board wants to take this opportunity to encourage NCISS members and other website visitors to utilize the Advocacy Hub to contact your elected officials concerning issues important to our profession. NCISS has put in place a system that allows our colleagues nationwide to avoid this pitfall, by providing our industry a platform to reach out to officials on issues important to our practice. But to have value, it must be utilized! And we are making this service available to non-NCISS members for a limited time to demonstrate its value. In the future, access will be available only to NCISS members, so be sure and take it for a test-drive. We are incredibly pleased to be able to offer the NCISS Advocacy Hub to our members (and to visitors for a limited time) and we encourage you to take advantage of this great and unique service. Many NCISS member security companies would be harmed by an increased minimum wage requirement, and would be forced to curtail the number of jobs offered. The Advocacy Hub is at http://goo.gl/QSCcgc A tutorial is at http://goo.gl/51CBMi

Members in the News and Print
|
This is a new section for The eReport. Many NCISS members have articles published in trade magazines, online forums and journals of other associations. If you are published, or find an NCISS colleague published, please send a link to the article for inclusion here.
FREE ebook - "7 Reasons Why Really Small Businesses Should Join their Industry Trade Association To Succeed"
NCISS association member Maine Licensed Private Investigators Association shared this ebook (free) on the importance to your agency and our profession in being part of the solutions and not just the beneficiaries (everyone benefits from the work of associations, but only 5-10% join, and only 5-10% of members are actively involved).
With nearly 1,000 NCISS members - tracking members in the news, published articles and newly published books will be a daunting task. If you are, or see a colleague, in the news or published, please email The eReport editor at beersda@DeathCaseReview.com
