  THE NCISS MEMBER BENEFITS

Updated for 2014

National Council of Investigation & Security Services
Your Voice...Your Benefits

Dear Members,

NCISS is a unique association with a unique mission - to "... keep you in business by keeping DC out of your business!" (Ed McClain, president emeritus).

That is the single most important benefit of NCISS since its founding in 1975.  NCISS presently serves nearly 1,000 members - with a goal to top 1,000 members in 2014.  As many members are part of other state, national and international associations with varying benefits, at NCISS we offer unique benefits - from legislative advocacy and alerts to multi-association integral networking.  Your NCISS member extends to tens of thousands of friends and colleagues in the investigation and security professions.

This special eReport does not contain all of the benefits you may realize by being a member - and encouraging others to join - but it does have the key benefits.  From friendships to guidance, and grassroots advocacy to national and global assistance, NCISS works for, and counts on, you.

SAAB / SLAM
State Association Advisory Board and
State Legislative Awareness Monitoring Program

While serving as the voice of the industry in Washington D. C., NCISS recognizes the need of state association leaders to be able to effectively communicate with their colleagues on issues that were specific to state associations. The purpose of the SAAB is to create a forum for the exchange of ideas, information, needs and concerns relative to the state and regional associations. We recognize the power of communication, the power of knowledge, and the power of being able to both share and receive information.

The State Association Advisory Board (SAAB) is comprised of NCISS leaders and members working with the leaders and members of state associations to assist both NCISS and state associations with the successful efforts at the federal level.

One of the most exciting new benefits is the improvement of two of the most important purposes and benefits of NCISS...

Beginning April 1st will our new State Legislation Awareness Monitoring program (SLAM).  SLAM will become an important part of our State Association Advisory Board (SAAB) and will add tremendous value to our state associations and their members. Participating state associations will no longer be caught off guard with proposed legislation at the state level, they will have assistance with grass roots letter writing and individual lobbying, and further assistance as needed by our Officers and Board members. Sample letters regarding their state issues will be available online, easy to sign and send.  Our Vice Presidents are currently revising the SAAB program with the goal of having these new programs fully implemented by the time we Hit the Hill in Washington, DC.

SAAB / SLAM is designed to accomplish the following and more:

- Link all State Association information to their Regional Director (RD) such as officer elections, seminars, accomplishments, legislative issues, ect.

- Provide access to the depth of talent of NCISS accomplished speakers

- Develop a regional calendar of events for NCISS

- Provide seminar development expertise

- Ensure all NCISS lobbying efforts are communicated to the State Associations

- Provide Power Point presentation materials to State Associations

SLAM will be overseen by the three Vice Presidents and comprised of the Regional Directors and Directors at Large.

Legislative Alerts and News
The most important function of NCISS is to monitor and direct federal legislation. But we also play an important role in acting as a conduit for state legislative information. Through joint efforts and other national and state associations of related industries, our advocates keep a finger on bills which affect o r professions.

Often, a law passed in a trend setting state will be adopted almost verbatim by other states wishing to follows it. If an unfavorable law is enacted in one state, NCISS alerts other state associations who can take action to keep the problem from spreading. A number of important position papers have already been authored on key issues such as privacy, police moonlighting, reciprocity and use of private contractors over hiring more government employees.

NCISS officers are frequently called upon to testify at congressional hearings giving our industry's viewpoint. Hit The Hill - NCISS members from across the country join together in Washington to meet with their senators, representatives and staff so they can be informed about our concerns and viewpoints. Congress appreciates our input in assisting them with promulgating sound legislation.

As soon as our legislative committee and advocate see an issue of concern to the investigative and security professions, a special Legislative Alert is sent via email to all members and distributed through special networking within state associations, as well as nationally and internationally.

The Report and The eReport

NCISS reaches over 1100 investigators and security consultants in your  national trade journal, The NCISS Report, delivered by direct mail to the agency owners who have an interest in events in Washington, D.C.

Beers, at beersda@DeathCaseReview.com.  Be sure and check the current and past issues at http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs052/1102296473151/archive/1110377933456.html
