Paul's second letter to Timothy is one of his last written communications; he would not be released from prison alive. Knowing this, Paul's letter passes on the responsibility of spreading The Gospel to Timothy. Using three illustrations of the Christian life, Paul urges Timothy to be strong and to keep The Gospel of Jesus Christ as the center of his teachings. Knowing that the Lord will give Timothy the necessary insight, Paul reminds him to spend time reflecting on his teachings.
