When Paul gives up his pursuit of righteousness within his own accomplishments, he finds true joy in Jesus Christ. This joy causes him to declare all his previous work as "garbage" when compared to the love of Christ. As Paul lives and serves Jesus, he forgets all of the bad things he did when he persecuted Christians. Instead, with forgiveness by Jesus, he is eager for what lies ahead in heaven.
