Paul knows that to convince the people of Corinth to follow Jesus Christ, he needs to appeal to something other than their sensibilities. He does this by pointing out that he was sent by God to preach the gospel of Jesus, not using eloquent words and convincing style, but rather to simply let the message stand on its own.
