Three opportunities for young people at Convention
There will be three different ways that teens can serve at convention: Some congregations have elected a teenager as a regular lay delegate. If you would like your teen delegates to room with other teens on Friday night, contact Jane Hartwell at jhartwell@episcopalmaine.org. Teens in grades 6-12 may serve as a youth ambassador. They will collect ballots and otherwise assist with convention. To volunteer, contact jhartwell@episcopalmaine.org. Teens in high school through age 20 may apply to be a Diocesan Youth Representative who will accompany the congregation to serve with voice, not vote, at convention. * Who can apply? Baptized members of Episcopal congregations who are either in high school or younger than age 21. * How to apply? Fill out the online nomination form here. The nomination form can be submitted by the young person, priest, or lay person. The form requires a brief note of support from their priest. Application deadline is September 15. * The selection committee will choose up to eight representatives. All applicants will be notified within a week after the deadline. * The congregation and priest should prepare the youth, encourage him/her to attend pre-convention hearings and mentor her/him during convention. * The diocese will provide meals, housing, a morning workshop and mentoring. For more information, contact Jane Hartwell at jhartwell@episcopalmaine.org.
