Producer Profile: Mel Puzon

Among the many driven, hardworking producers at Access Tucson, perhaps none is more passionate than Mel Puzon. As the producer of the program Occupy Your Voice, he is dedicated to bringing news of the Occupy movement, both local and national, to Tucson viewers. Compelled by his desire for social justice, Mel has become deeply involved in the Occupy revolt and shares this enthusiasm with the community through public access television.

Mel describes his background and what drew him to Access Tucson.

At six years old, I arrived in the U.S. in 1968. I have lived in many places in America, as my father was in the military, and have had much exposure to cultures around the world. As a Veteran For Peace, I have served this nation as a Cadet and a Medical Specialist in the military. With over 15 years in multimedia production and 30 years of computer technology, I have always wanted to explore the world of Cable Television.

On October 2, 2011, I started out on a "Unity Walk" across America and arrived in Tucson January of 2012. Upon arrival, I joined the Tucson Occupy movement to share the message so desperately needed by so many who are being harmed and are unaware. Since then, my activism has inspired and mandated my stay here to share solutions and bring real journalism back to television.

His current project, Occupy Your Voice, aims to do just that. The clipshow-style program covers topics from the Occupy revolt to the dangers of air pollution.

Mel expresses his desires for the program, and the impact it has made on his life:

"I hope to accomplish bringing information and solutions to mainstream media though exciting imagery and well produced videos. I also want to bring these messages to the street and the businesses that can be integral in a change for the better. The show has changed my life, in that doors have been opened for deeper communication and action.  I have been inspired to educate myself even more and show others how to begin implementing the solutions I share."

"Access Tucson is an awesome gift and a wonderful opportunity for me to speak out and allow others to do the same.  It has given me a powerful purpose and motivation to continue learning more and sharing the solutions to much of the world's woes."

In his spare time, Mel is a struggling activist, artist and Historic Restoration craftsman. He also works on computers, and acts as a webmaster and internet consultant. Mel enjoys volunteering for activities that edify the community and all the while takes care of two teenagers.

Occupy Your Voice airs Wednesdays at 8:30AM and Thursdays at 7:30PM.
