A View from the Inside
A Collection of Medically Oriented Short Stories
Augustine L. Perrotta, DO of Bloomfield Hills, a retired hematologist and medical oncologist, has written a tribute to the osteopathic profession, A View from the Inside. There are 15 chapters of medically oriented short stories that range from the womb to the tomb. In this non-fiction work, Dr. Perrotta gives us an insiders view of public personalities and private figures from a unique medical perspective and his connection to them.
The book will be enjoyed by health care professionals and their patients. There is a chapter about that signal event in the profession's history, the first DO draft, and bioethical considerations in treating Jehovah Witnesses. Sports figures featured include Babe Ruth, Ezzard Charles and the anesthesiologist who developed epidural conduction anesthesia for obstetrics who was a WWWF light heavyweight champion wrestler, John J. Bonica, MD. Especially detailed are the chapters on bone marrow transplantation and twins but all medical terminology is clearly defined for the non-medical reader. On a lighter note is "Humor as Medicine" and a treatise on his signature wearing apparel, "Bow Ties."
