Resurrection E-News

Dear Resurrection Family,

We gathered in the Sanctuary on Wednesday for a Celebration of New Life for Mina Evans. Mina is Nancy Evans mother. Pastor Carol read these familiar words from the gospel of John: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but will have eternal life; for God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him." Many thanks to all who made today special for the Evans family. The music was beautiful and the lunch in the Fellowship Hall was delicious.

This Sunday, June 14, is the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost and we worship at 8:30 and 11:00. This is Pastor Carol's last sermon at Resurrection. The gospel reading is Mark 4:26-34, the Parable of the Mustard Seed. The mustard seed becomes a shrub that shelters the birds, recalling ancient images of the tree of life. In comparison to a cedar or a sequoia, the bush that appears may not seem all that impressive, but while nobody's looking it grows with a power beyond our understanding. Amy Burcher will be playing one of Pastor's Carol's favorite songs, "His Eye is on the Sparrow".

We have one service at 10:00 am on Sunday, June 21. That is the day that Bishop Mauney will be with us at worship to preach and help with our farewell. We do not know exactly what will take place after worship. We've only been told about food and a surprise.

The Council considered the summer schedule for worship and the decision is to have one service of worship each Sunday from June 21 through Rally Sunday in September. The time for worship each Sunday is 10 am. Please see the June newsletter for the names of the pastors who will be leading worship for the coming weeks until the interim pastor arrives at Resurrection. The interim pastor has not yet been named by Bishop Mauney and our Congregation Council.

We hope you will be serious about Vacation Bible School. What child/children do you know who would benefit from a wonderful experience of Bible stories, music, crafts and games this summer? The dates are July 6 to 9 at Christ Lutheran. This past Sunday evening we had a great orientation session for staff from Resurrection and Christ. This will be a wonderful week! Registrations forms are available at the display in the narthex.

The sounds of children have been evident this week around Resurrection as our Preschool's Beach Camp has been in session each morning. The Fredericksburg Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church will be hosting a Vacation Bible School for children at Resurrection later this summer in the evenings (August 16 through 21).

We continue to keep you in our prayers during this time of transition. Remember the words of our Lord in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6):

So don't be anxious about tomorrow.

God will take care of your tomorrow too.

Live one day at a time.

Here's the good news: God already has it covered. God knows who the interim pastor will be. God even knows how long the interim time will be   and who the next settled pastor will be. You and Resurrection will be fine.

God's blessings to you and your household this week!

Pastors Jim and Carol
