Resurrection Lutheran Church

Dear Resurrection Family,

This Sunday is Reformation Sunday and Trunk or Treat! In the morning please wear the color red for our Festival Worship at 10:00. We'll be singing A Mighty Fortress, celebrating our great heritage as Lutheran Christians. Pastor Jim's sermon focuses on the Gospel ( John 8:31-36) and the good news that brings us freedom and new life. The prelude features a wonderful instrumental trio, including Marla Snyder on flute, Marty Riedl on oboe and Amy Burcher on piano. We also have a vocal trio of elementary school girls singing in the service, including Katherine Hamlin, Jennifer Morton and Megan Miller.

The Adult Forum this Sunday at 8:45 is focused on Children and Grief. We've invited all parents in our Church and School to attend. Pastor Carol will be leading a team to engage the children in an activity while the parents are in the Forum. The activity is making scarecrows that will be part of the decorating for the evening's Trunk or Treat Night.

Please come to an evening of fun and fellowship! Our 11th annual Trunk or Treat Night is co-sponsored by our Resurrection School and Church. All ages are invited to come to this family-friendly event at 5:00 pm (sign up on the narthex bulletin board to bring chili and/or hot dogs). There will be games and crafts for children. We hope that lots of folks will decorate the trunks of their cars and have candy to give out to the children. The weather will be very good this year and so we are returning to the practice of decorating cars and not inside rooms. The trunk or treating starts at 6:30 in the parking lot. It would be great if everyone (children and adults) wore a costume, but nothing too scary.

Please be thinking ahead to Sunday, November 2. That is All Saints Sunday and our morning service helps us remember our loved ones who have entered life eternal. We have the opportunity to light candles in their memory at the beginning of the service. We'll be singing For All the Saints.

After worship on November 2 is Oktoberfest!  This is for all ages and will take place on the church lawn (inside in case of inclement weather). We'll have Beer and Brats, Root Beer and German Potato Salad and Sauerkraut. There will be the Annual Renewal of Marriage Vows by Martin Luther (alias Pastor Jim). We'll have good German music and games for the kids. There will be a booth featuring items from Old Lutheran for sale (beer glasses and Luther coffee mugs). Bring your camera and have your picture taken with the likes of Martin and Katie Luther. Invite your family and friends.

We give thanks to God for letting us serve this very enthusiastic Congregation. Thanks to all who step up to help support the many ministries and activities that take place every week.

In Christ's love,

Pastors Jim and Carol
