What's Happening...at Resurrection Lutheran

3rd Annual Fall Bazaar

On Saturday, September 20...the 3rd Annual Fall Bazaar takes place on the campus of Resurrection. The fun begins at 8:00 am...ends at 2:00 pm...and we're all invited!   Over 40 crafters and vendors will be on site...and that's not all!   There will be a used book sale, bake sale, basket raffle, activities for children, concessions provided by the Boy Scouts, along with the liquidation of collectibles (including Jim Shore, Snow Babies, and more).   Come prepared to have a good day of pre-holiday shopping!

25th Anniversary Celebration

We are only one week away from a very special day: RLC's 25th Anniversary!   The date is Sunday, September 28...and we will have a single service at 10:00 a.m., followed by a brunch reception and program.     The Rev. Jeff Ruby, Mission Developer for our congregation, will be our guest along with his wife, Susan, and son, Erik.     It's not too late to plan on attending...simply phone the church office at (540) 786-7778...and talk to Donna Roberts.

Healing Service / Sunday, September 21

We're all invited to participate in a Healing Service this Sunday at 10:00 a.m.    During the Prayers, folks will be invited to move to one of four stations in order to pray with a Prayer Partner and received the Laying on of Hands and the anointing with oil.     Whether you are praying for yourself or for someone else, rest assured that intercessory prayer was God's idea.

Children's Church / I Love to Tell the Story

For children age 2 through Grade 5, Children's Church is all about "telling the story" in an engaging and interactive way.      This Sunday, during worship, the children will follow Pastor Carol from the Sanctuary to the Fellowship Hall where our Bible Story (Jonah and the REALLY BIG FISH) will be brought to life.   Rest assured, our story telling will be age appropriate, lectionary based, and utilize the delightful SPARK Story Bible from Augsburg Fortress.    Then, just before the Offertory, all children will return to the Sanctuary in order to participate in the rest of the service with their family.   That in a nutshell is what Children's Church is all about.   Worship that is engaging for the entire family.   Worship that is all about Jesus...and His love.

'Praying Our Kids Through...(from birth to college)'

Have you noticed the small white "tree"...just to the right of one of the credenzas in the foyer?   The Prayer Ministry folks are asking that we each consider taking a child or youth's name from the "Prayer Tree" and, in doing so, pledge to pray for that child or youth...by name...for the entire school year.   These are our children....our youth....here at Resurrection.   And yes...they, too, need our prayers.     Won't you stop by this Sunday...and pick a name?   God speed.

It's Time for a LUTHERAN REVIVAL

Detailed information can be found in your September Newsletter (on page 6)...but the gist of the story is that we "LUTHERANS" are having a REVIVAL on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in nearby Warrenton.   Plan to attend interesting workshops for all ages, a fine fellowship meal, and a wonderful unifying worship service.     This year our guest preacher is Pastor Leila Oritz, a doctoral candidate at The Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia.     She has a passion for Protestant Latino/a Liberation Theology in the United States and is especially interested in those she calls "Luthercostals"(Pentecostals who find themselves in our Lutheran churches today).

Both Pastor Jim and Pastor Carol will be leading workshops...and some of our Choir will be participating in both the pre-service and worship service.      Registration opens at 2:00 and workshops begin at 2:30.   The meal begins at 4:00 and the pre-service music starts at 4:45.     Five ELCA congregations will be participating this year: Christ Lutheran (Fredericksburg), St. Lukes (Culpeper), St. Peter's (Stafford), Our Saviour (Warrenton) and Resurrection. What a FUN way to "bump into our neighbors" in the ELCA!

What's Happening This Fall

We continue with one service at 10:00 AM through the Sunday before Thanksgiving (November 23)...also recognized as Christ the King Sunday.     Here's a sneak preview of the day's events: we will not only have our Thanksgiving Service at 10:00 AM, but it will be followed by a "Thanks-Be-to-God" Pot Luck Meal with our friends, the Seventh Day Adventist Hispanic Church (that worships on our campus).       What a wonderful way to acknowledge how thankful we all are for our partnership in reaching out to our neighbors.

On the First Sunday of Advent (November 30) we return to two worship venues: the Traditional Service at 8:30 AM and a more Contemporary Service at 11:00 AM.   Christian Formation classes will continue between the services with a start time of 9:45 AM.
