Resurrection Lutheran Church

Dear Resurrection Family,

Thank you for your faithfulness in worship this summer! We'll be continuing our one service at 10:00 through the month of September. You'll need to be extra attentive to the schedule for Christian Education, since September is "out of the ordinary". Details will be in the September newsletter. This Sunday, August 31, is the concluding day for our Adult Forum Summer Series. September 7 is Rally Day and there are no classes at 8:45. We do worship at 10:00 and have a wonderful fellowship and food time after worship, with opportunity to register for Christian Education and Music Ministry. Christian Education Classes for adults and confirmation students will take place on September 14 and 21 at 8:45. Younger children will have Sunday School in a different way on September 14 and 21: After the children's message in worship, they will go with Pastor Carol and other teachers for a time of learning and return to worship in time for Holy Communion and Blessing. September 28th is our 25th Anniversary Celebration and there are no classes. We worship at 10:00, followed by a wonderful meal and then a most interesting anniversary program.

Please see the video clip from Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton. She is wearing her ELCA shirt and inviting us all to participate in the September 7th Day of Community Service. At Resurrection we're inviting all households to find a way to reach out to help someone in need "in the name of Jesus". Our youth group is doing a project together. Our Faith in Action Team invites folks to help pack school supplies for Chancellor Elementary School. We hope you will find other ways to be loving and creative and outreaching...

Also, Pastor Jim serves on the Board of Directors for Mental Health America of Fredericksburg. Here is an invitation to remember Robin Williams in a way that highlights our need to address depression among our family, friends and co-workers.

We hope to see you at worship this Sunday.

In Christ's love,

Pastors Jim and Carol Kniseley

FROM BISHOP EATON:

"God's work. Our hands." Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. On Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, the nearly 10,000 congregations of this church gather to serve communities in ways that share the love of God with all of God's people.

Whether it's 30,000 young people doing community volunteer work at an ELCA Youth Gathering, the passionate volunteers of the ELCA homeless ministry network or the devoted members of our congregations who fight for peace and justice in their communities every day, we are a church that boldly does God's work of restoring and reconciling communities.

When one congregation or group of congregations gather for service in their local communities, they are the church in that place, taking care of that part of God's vineyard. But this is all work that we do together. When one congregation works to feed people who are hungry, that is also the entire church coming together," says ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton.     "'God's work. Our hands.' Sunday reminds us that we are church together for the sake of the world. Our lives have been changed by our relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and it's that encounter with Jesus that frees us to make a difference. As you participate Sept. 7, 2014, in the dedicated day of service, may you witness the love of God, who knows and loves each one of us."

You work every day to love your neighbors and make your community a better place. Now let's do it together!
