Dear Friends in Christ,
Over the next four weeks we invite members and friends of Resurrection Lutheran to be thinking about your walk with Jesus. We invite you to read the scriptures, especially the Holy Gospel according to St. John, and try to make sense of the cross while making sense of your giving.
God has entrusted to us all the blessings of this life, and how we use these blessings is an important part of this walk with Jesus. Through our reading of Holy Scriptures we will strive to grow closer to Jesus as we walk together through this life as Resurrection people.
When it comes to giving financial support, don't ask yourself "How much of my money does the church need?" Rather, ask yourself: "How is God calling on me to responsibly use the gifts I have been given?" It is important to remember that the resources you have been given stewardship of still belong to God and are entrusted by God to your care. It is also important to remember that when Jesus talks about giving, he never talks about the need of the church to receive, he always talks about the need of the giver to give as an expression of a sincere faith.
Our generosity draws us closer to God. Generous deeds shape our lives and our understandings. Through generosity we begin to know more deeply and broadly the graciousness of God. Generosity does not change God's behavior toward us, but it does change our behavior toward God.
As we walk with Jesus over the next four weeks, think about all God has entrusted to your care. Do you use all your gifts for yourself and your family alone, or do you freely share your gifts in community with others? Think about your need to give as a part of your faith in Jesus. Ask yourself, "How generously does God call on me to respond?"
Grace, Mercy, and Peace to you in this season of Lent.
Your Stewardship Team
