"Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits -
who forgives all your sins  and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion
"      Psalm 103
Greetings!

The Psalms are songs -- songs of prayer and praise collected throughout Israel's history -- it is the ancient hymnal of the people of Israel.  Psalm 103 is a hymn of thanks for the goodness of God, and has special meaning for anyone who is suffering from adversity in their lives.  It is Jesus who redeems our lives from the pit (in Hebrew the place of destruction).  If you enjoy music or poetry, go back to the Psalms often!

Whenever you read Scripture, ask yourself where you see Jesus in it!

Remember...confirmation class starts at 9:45 every Sunday with Pastor Carol in the conference room.  If you are unable to make it on any particular Sunday, please let your small-group advisor know ahead of time (Kelli, Denise, or Eric).  Our schedule is posted (with attendance) so you can see what lessons you might miss.

Sixth Grade is studying the book of Genesis -- the first book of the Torah.  Genesis takes us from creation to the founding of the nation of Israel all the way to their enslavement in Egypt.  Think Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sarah > Isaac > Jacob (Israel) > Joseph.

Seventh Grade is working through introductions to each of the four Gospels -- The "Good News" according to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  The first three tell us "what" happened when the Word became flesh and dwelt among us -- these are called the "synoptic" Gospels.  John tells us the "so what" -- the "why is this important".  Then the rest of the New Testament tells us the "now what" -- what do we people do now that we know about Jesus?

Eighth Grade has just studied the three creeds, and is about to start the New Testament beyond the Gospels.  For next Sunday (Oct 21st) we'll be filling out the New Testament Chart -- get yours on-line and go through it with your parents(either before or after class).  On Sunday October 28th (Reformation Sunday), Jim Farnsworth will lead small group session on the Acts of the Apostles (Session 7).
Please remember to bring your Bibles and Small Catechisms to confirmation.  Next Sunday Pastor Carol will lead us in discussing the Third Commandment (Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy).

Blessings,
