Message from the Directors

Hello SCVi Families,

We are very proud of our learners as they work on leaving things better than they found it. Everyone is doing their part making sure that the school grounds look clean. We love that our learners are taking pride in their school. As you walk around the lower campus, you will see new carpeting and paint in many of our classrooms, a community piano upstairs, project boards displayed in the back lobby and upstairs, and our new Flag Courtyard. We have also purchased eight large garden boxes for our back yard and the Cafe courtyard. Soon, our learners will learn to grow herbs, plants, and flowers. The learners will research to determine what we should plant and will be responsible for maintaining the plants and boxes. We will continue to add beautiful touches throughout the year.

Our upper school facilitators are having a great time getting to know our new learners, including our amazing new freshmen and of course, our equally fantastic returning students. Mrs. Nilsen and I have enjoyed getting to know the 11th graders in our community Service Learning class (more information and rubric to follow). We are enjoying the new Shakespeare Theater buildout. As a result, we have fresh new spaces for our learners and facilitators to perform their magic. I look forward to keeping you updated as we evolve and grow.

All the best,
Lisa Latimer and Kimberly Matthes
Brick Dedications Available for New Flag Courtyard

We hope you were able to attend the dedication ceremony of our beautiful new Flagpole Courtyard on Friday, September 9, in remembrance of Patriot Day. Our lower school learners are already enjoying the new space and especially love sitting, reading and playing on the grass.

We have received many positive comments and inquiries about buying bricks in the courtyard. Twelfth grader Adam Miller, who designed and built the courtyard, has offered to continue to sell bricks and coordinate an ongoing Brick Fundraiser for us to make our Flagpole Courtyard even better.

So, it's not too late to buy a brick! Consider buying a brick and express yourself! Feel free to be creative! And remember you can buy a group brick with other individuals; you are not limited to buying as an individual or single family.

Click here for a copy of the order form for your convenience with contact information if you have questions. Order forms can also be found at the Lower and Upper School Administration Office Front Desks or above the designated wall payment box on the first floor of the Lower School across from the restrooms and near the entrance to the Flagpole Courtyard.

We look forward to raising the new flags every day and hope you'll be able to join us for our various flag ceremonies throughout the year.
Volunteer Orientation Was Successful, Thanks to You

Thank you to all of the parents who came to both of our Volunteer Orientations this month. Combined, we had over 100 parents attend! There are many ways to be involved other than in the classroom. If you have a passion or a talent that you would like to share with our learners, please see your child's facilitator. We also need help organizing our Innovation Station, which will open up this Friday. If you have large cardboard boxes, recyclables, old tires, or anything else that the learners can create with, please let us know.

New Little iLeaders Building Nears Completion

The inside has been painted and looks beautiful! We still have some repairs, deep cleaning, and finishing touches before moving in. We are expecting to move within the next few weeks and will keep you updated. The Little iLeaders Non-Profit Private Early Childhood Learning Center is in the beginning stages of the licensing process. If you are interested please click here.
Individualized Learning Plans

Upper and Lower School are in process of scheduling ILPs. If you have not made an appointment to meet with your child's lower school facilitator or upper school advisor, please contact them as soon as possible.
Echo Training

We will host a middle and high school Echo parent training night on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. in the upper school's Etta James room. This training is in addition to the online training link and designed to offer more support, if needed. Please RSVP to your child's advisor prior to the event if you would like to attend.

Community Gallery Featuring SCVi Learners - Last Month to View!

September is your last month to see SCVi's exhibit of artwork at the Valencia Town Center Gallery. Each quarter an individual or a group from the community fills the Town Center gallery for a three-month art show. SCVi work from learners in the lower grades up to high school has been on display since the end of June. Next time you are at the Town Center we hope you'll make a point of checking out the display.

Help Take Care of Our River!

Come help clean a portion of the Santa Clara River... the longest free-flowing river and one of the last two natural river systems remaining in Southern California. Be a part of the solution for a better environment by helping to preserve the river's natural beauty and variety of wildlife.

Join together with your SCVi friends on Saturday, September 17, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. while taking pride incaring for our community at the Santa Clarita River Rally. Earn SCVi volunteer hours when you wear your SCVi shirt! RSVP to Sara Brown.
