The studio will be closed today in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
Hello Innovation Studios Families!
Welcome to an exciting new year!
We just completed a two-week, activity-filled orientation. Learners spent time in their studios getting to know their guides and designing their first projects.
Learners participated in an online orientation to make sure everyone is comfortable with the process before getting started on their own courses.
This was an opportunity to establish protocols, dream and plan how we will create an inviting space and, most importantly, get to know and connect with other learners.
Our Mission
Innovation Studios creates a supportive community of independent learners and thinkers!
Areas of Focus
Personalized Learning: All learners work with their guide to develop an individualized learning plan based on their interests and passions. Learners choose how they learn. They may choose online courses, site-based (if at SCVi) or design their own course that enables them to meet state standards in a more meaningful and authentic way. Learners participate with their guide in a reflective process when assessing grades
Internships: Exploring work is an integral part of Innovation Studios. Learners begin by connecting with their passions and interests and use that as a starting point in considering what fields they may want to examine. This process includes: considering current jobs in areas of interest; researching local companies; email and personal interviews with professionals; resume and letters of inquiry; job-shadowing; internships; mentorships.
Community Connections: Learners take on real-world projects by working together, researching needs and issues in their shared communities, creating positive steps and implementing action plans. They participate together not just to solve problems but to become powerful members of a more compassionate, empathetic system.
Health and Well-Being: Learners discuss and consider issues pertaining to their own and others' social and emotional health and well-being.
Outdoor Curriculum: A big part of Innovation Studios is getting out of the studio! Learners partner together with guides to explore local treasures, beautiful places and exciting adventures.
Advisories
All students are leaders at Innovation Studios. That's why their participation once a week in Leadership Advisory is essential. This is where learners support each other in:
Exploring work and helping each other make connections that lead to internships
Collaborating on projects that make a genuine difference in the world
Creating fun community events
Engaging in issues that are urgent and necessary to teens creating more health and well-being for themselves and others
